we just sold our 2005 Subaru Forester.  a rare stick shift car.

mixed bag.  we had a valve tap issue that required a full top end rebuild.  once fixed, and it was a BIG fix, the car was great.  no more issues.

road/wind noise was a problem.  I find all cars with the glass of the side windows not surrounded by door steel to have this problem.

car was turbo, so it was fast.

MPG was abismal.

when we sold it, it was still clean.  interior was very robust and so was the paint.  it looked new.

tires.  it was AWD like all subies, so if you destroyed one half worn tire, it was HIGHLY recommended to change all of them to keep the diameters consistent.

the car was fun.  it was very capable on some rough fire roads.  I miss it.

DIY maint was easy.  oil changes cake.  air filter and cabin filter..cake.   spark plugs are a GARGANTUAN pain the the hind side.  rumor has it you have to lift the motor. boxer config with the plugs up agains the unibody.  good times!!!  I got them out and in DIY but I had two good friends for support and help.  it wasn't fun at all.  but we did it without lifting the motor.
