Looking at getting a new casting reel, I bought a Walmart combo last summer when I just got back into fishing and it barley made it through one season. So I have been reading up on a couple reels.
13 Fishing z3

Curado dc

diawa tatula

Any advice or opinions will help, even I completely different reel.  I don’t fish a lot maybe 20 times a year but I wouldn’t mind having a decent setup when I do go.

It sounds like your a one rod/reel guy, which is absolutely ok. If that is the case, personally I’d get the Tatula SV and a good 7’3”ish MH Fast rod and call it a day.  For me, that would handle 75% or more of the fishing I usually do.

Another reel I would add to you list would be the Shimano Curado 150. There is a reason the Curado and Tatula series of reels are all time best sellers for each company.

This is a 300 size big bait reel. Not an all arounder.

I'd get the Tatula if you're new-ish and intend to throw lighter lures. It's a solid all around reel and easy to dial in if you're changing baits often.

I will second the tatula, there good reels for the money, the DC reels are nice I have one and use it occasionally. Although for the most part all of my other reels are non DC and I feel the extra money can help you get a higher quality reel or whatever else you need to go with.

The 13 Fishing reels I have used are the aluminum frame C and A models and the original Z. They are great reels and have a simple brake system under the attached side plate. They worked great for me as long as the brake ring was cleaned and oiled weekly. If you want a DC reel go for the JDM Scorpion DC, it has a better brake system vs the USDM I-DC4.

Between the 2 manufacturers you asked about, Shimano and it’s not even close.

I would have recommended the Shimano, never had a bad one.

Where I'm different is, for a universal rod I'd go with a 6'10 - 7'0 med over a MH. IMHO

But considering I use braid with no stretch, looking for a bent rod during the fight.

Definitely Daiwa or Shimano over 13. I have a buddy who had the anti-reverses go out on a couple casting reels after a year or so of use. Granted this was 2-3 years ago and things may have changed, it still leaves a bad impression in my mind.

Shimano by a long shot.

As far as 13 Fishing goes,  I have heard mixed results with them but not all bad. Some guys like them and others are like .... I tried it and it wasn't what I had hoped for.

I was all in on 13 years ago and they let me down BIG TIME! Not only because the products had issues but the way I was treated when I attempted to get their help with said issues.... Never again!

Between the ones you named SHIMANO and like Mike L said it's not even close!

The Curado DC or 150 MGL will handle just about anything you can throw at them big or small.

So far this season I have purchased a Shimano Curado 200k, a Curado 150 DC, and just last night I ordered a Curado 150 MGL.

See the pattern? Before that I enjoyed Lew's and other reels, but after I bought the 200K I'm hooked on Shimano quality and performance. I'm not even tempted to try another brand, even though there are other great brands out there. THAT is how much I like my Shimano's.

Dont even think about it, Your reel is: Curado dc

Shimano reels are superior to the other reel brand you mentioned. Hook into a powerful fish that can peel over 100 feet of line in less than a couple seconds and you will understand why so many people fish with Shimano reels. Penn and Daiwa also make great reels.

Well said @Mike L. I rather invest in a quality reel like a Shimano that I know is built well than waste money on a overhyped reel that has inferior components.
