throttleplate Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 Instead of buying new treble hooks for my jitterbug lure i just took them and the rings off the whopper plopper. I put the rings and trebles on the jitterbug because the original hooks are installed on the hook keepers in a way that there is really no side to side and front to back swinging movement of the hooks. I also added some maibou flashing for the heck of it using shrink tubeing to secure it on the hook. I have a plan to use the jitterbug on the river wading for smallmouth. 2 Quote

Super User Deleted account Posted February 26, 2022 Super User Posted February 26, 2022 I borrow hooks from Paul to put on Peter all the time. FYI, I fished the jitterbug a lot recently with the cicada bloom, and I made many mods, among them adding hair and feathers to the hooks, and found that anything I did only made the catching worse. A slight bend of the lip and tie, and better hooks was the ticket. 1 1 Quote
cyclops2 Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 I have never bought new rings or trebles. Save them from lures being trashed. Why not. 1 Quote

I closed the ears down (forward) a touch, making one slightly more cupped than the other, then I "polish" the eye rivet thing so that it is very free, then finally bent the tab where it enters the lip up a tad. I like working it with a high tip keeping the line out of the water. When it gets into a rhythm, it walks and gurgles almost on it's own. 1 Quote
