Anyone have recommendations on lithiums for a 24V system?  I'm looking at Dakotas and Battleborns.

I would dare to guess that any lithium battery would be superior to any lead acid. Imo

Just purchase one to suit your needs and you'll never look back.

If you aren’t knowledgeable then I suggest that you do some research before you buy.

I haven’t gone that way yet because I think they are all made in China.  How would one get a warranty claim processed?

I think the Dakotas are made in the USA.  I've done a little research.  Enough to know you need a lithium-specific charger for them.  The Tracker lithiums can be replaced through Bass Pro if you get a defective one (based off a review I read).

nope, they are made in China as well.  I don't think any are made in the US.

Just like you would any item that is made overseas and sold by a US company, you deal with the company who is their distributor.

I've noticed that pretty much every battery brand on the market sells what appears to be the exact same batteries.  The color of the plastic is different but everything else looks the same.  Makes me wonder if everyone is selling the same products from the same factory in China.   The exception to this is Battle Born.  That would be my choice.  I’ve never heard anyone say they regretted buying any lithium battery so I’m not sure the brand matters that much.

All the lithium batteries I own are indeed made in China and all charge on on my existing chargers, similar to the requirements of deep cycle marine batteries, yes I've heard the chatter.

The research will show that the initial cost of lithium is debunked with life cycle, weight and low maintenance.

So far, been very impressed with lithium batteries.

Yep I checked with Ionic before purchase and my MinnKota precision 4 bank works fine.

ive got 2 50ah ionic lithiums for my trolling motor. have them for one season so far along with a 100ah for my cranking and electronics battery. i feel like that was a good choice, no problems so far.

not trying to knock dakotas but i was hearing off of youtube anglers having alot of mechanical and customer service issues.

Origin states Reno, NV for Battle Born.....Battery-Comparison-New.jpg

I'm showing my ignorance here, but is this battery truly a 24V battery and the only one I would need for my 24V 80LB thrust Ultrex?

Only 50 amps per hour ?

I'd want a minimal of 100. Imo

I was wondering because I know nothing about lithium and have never seen a 24V deep cycle battery.

Rick, Google the advantages of lithium batteries, life cycle alone may very well pay for itself.

Yes, you'll need 24V battery for that trolling motor but don't settle for a 50ah, get the most you can afford Incase you have engine problems or fighting wind and have to rely on your trolling motor.

I understand the need for a strong set of batteries. And I have some understanding on the advantages of lithium. But, I have never seen a single 24 volt battery designed for trolling. So, I was seeking some clarification on that.

I have limited room in my battery compartment and it is FULL with the 2 lead cell batteries for my Ultrex. If a single 24 volt battery could work it would save a TON of weight and some room as well in my battery compartment. Incidentally, the only one I see is 50 ah and that's not enough, which makes me wonder why they even make it.

I appreciate your willingness to help.

i fish electric only lakes and use that exact battery for my 80 pound ultrex and it will run for  full days of fishing and still have charge left. i also have a 48 volt for my torqueedo and run wherever i want on it. 100 ah lakes are about 3500 acres.

I highly recommend everyone to go to Will Prowse's Youtube channel and watch an expert tear each of these batteries apart, inspect them, test them, and tell you what's up. Which are built better, which took shortcuts, the boards they use inside, the quality of the cells and connections. Some are clones of each other.

Awesome Youtube channel. Extremely informative. Look through his videos to find these teardowns. There are a lot of them. You may be surprised how the big brands compare with some of the no-name Amazon ones.

I'm taking a chance on one of the low cost ENJOYBOT's that Will recommends at about half the price of what I'll call the good ones like Battleborn but they don't have anything in 24v. Time will tell if it works out, if not I'll be paddling back.

Then you'll need two batteries hooked together in series.

TM Negative to Neg on battery #1

TM Positive to Pos on battery #2

Jumper from Pos battery #1 to Neg battery #2

Running a 24v TM from a single 12v battery is NOT a good idea...it'll work...but you're gonna drain that battery faster and not get the full output of the motor.

I have heard on other forums that lithium batteries don’t play well with colder temps. Is this true or just a rumor? Even though I live in the north, I don’t usually fish in colder temps a lot.

I've seen reviews that state the opposite.

Bad side - and where they probably get the 'lithium and cold don't mix' thing.

The only references I have seen to lithium batteries and cold have related to ice fishing and using battery powered augers. That was several years ago and they were using cordless drills and their batteries.

The OP is looking at 24v, mine's 12.

FWIW, I did see Lithium's that have a heat blanket or some such in them so they can charge at below freezing temps although I don't recall which. Might be more for home or cabin type solar setups as opposed to fishing.

From 2018 - they got their cells from China and assemble in Utah. Things may have changed of course.

"Question:

Our parts come from all over the world. Our cells come from China as that is the only place making lithium iron phosphate cells right now. We only use UL listed cells and our pack is listed UL2054 by a US battery test lab.

I looked into the temp range of BBorn batteries some time ago. The FAQ is still on their site. They sell a heating wrap that turns on at 24*F and runs up to 40 iirc.

"Battle Born Batteries protect themselves from charging in cold temperatures and won’t accept a charge once the internal cell temperature drops to 24°F. At this point they will continue to discharge even down to -4°F. At this temperature we recommend no longer pulling power to avoid damaging the batteries.

Insulated battery boxes, heating blankets, and placing your battery bank inside your RV will help keep the temperature stable. On the high end of temperature range, the batteries will shut down once 135°F is reached.
