yes mine has a rating and it says 230 pounds or 2 people. It was my dads old Jon boat and he is a bigger guy (around 285) and he and my grandpa (around 145) took it out i think with just paddles to get them around. Im not saying this is a good weight for the boat by any means (also not sure how it performed with that weight) just wondering what you guys think and how much weight you guys have seen or experinced with it.

That's a one person boat to me.

Me: 195#

Rods/reels/tackle: 30#

that leaves 5# capacity for any fish I keep to put in the freezer.

I’m all for being safe, don’t overload your boat. All I’m saying is most adults weigh more than 115 lbs. That is all.

I get it and I actually agree. The OP's jon boat really shouldn't have a build, but that's up to him.

Haven't joked with you in a while tho TNRiver... :)

I don't think the USCG stamp is meant to be interpreted that way.  It says "persons", not "adults."

I take my dog fishing quite often.  She's not a person.  But I count her as weight.

Regardless, you clarified your position on overloading a boat, so no harm no foul.

LOL

Another thing to keep in mind is the structural integrity of the watercraft itself.  We all know you park your boat on the rocks and allow rust to invade.  The weight capacity in yours is listed as being way too high based on the condition of the boat itself!

Making room for these?

OP, 230 lbs. max capacity is way too little for two people, let alone decking the boat out.

Ya - leave it alone, no deck, no raised seats - and only use on calm ponds.

Go find a nice, used 14' jon or Semi-V if you want to customize it...I know some have used smaller, but I wouldn't want to take the chance.

I say keep it simple and cheap, otherwise put the money into a bigger boat.

How about lowering the platform which will lower the center of gravity? Or even a flat slightly raised floor? Even with one person I'm not sure I'd put a deck up high near the gunwales. Go for stability regardless of the weight you put in it.

My concern would not be weight capacity, it would be stability.

Bottom width determines stability not beam. Beam is the measurement across the top of the boat & has nothing to do with stability since it ain't in the water.

Bottom width is the part of the boat that actually makes contact with the water. Your Gamefisher probably has a 34-36" bottom width.

These small jon boats are not designed to stand up in them much less build a deck on em.

Absolutely wouldn’t deck a 10’.

I decked a 1448. That’s as small as I’d go for the deck to be anything other than a decoration

Go to Tinboats.net and look for the sticky on decks and stability. Good Info.

No one here can help you with that.  Use the contact me page on their site: https://www.tinboats.net/contact/.

I use have a 10' john boat and at that time I weighed 210lb, had about 30lbs of gear, a trolling motor and a heavy duty battery. I could put one other person under 200lbs in it. This was safe for a pond but not an open water lake. If you add a deck, to me, this would not only be too heavy but the stability would be dangerous for even one person.
