I'm looking for some replacement handle knobs for my CL200 Calais.  the parts booklet only shows a handle assembly and that part is discontinued.  Is there anything special about these that you can't replace them without changing the whole handle?

I thought I was the only one left fishing these. Careful you don't get a hernia :)

Calais have those no lock nut, blind, loosen and squeeze the drag star and spin the handle backwards handle thingy (technical term), so they are not compatible with "standard" handles. I think Shimano has discontinued support for these reels. There may be after market knobs that fit, and those knob cover things are also an option. Remember, lift with your legs, not your back... :)

Those are old septon knob which Shimano hasn’t use those on any reels for quite a while since Curado 50e?
I don’t think Calais use rivet to hold the knob, you should be able to replace with Shimano knob available, like power knob the one from Curado 200 K (bigger, fattier) or finesse knob the one from 70MGL. If you wanna keep original look, you can search eBay for Calcutta 200B handle assembly and only use the knobs. (You might have to make sure the knob is removable).

Regarding while Shimano doesn’t offer knobs separate, I’m not sure. Some of the reels are the saw way since Curado I or even current SLX where the knob definitely replaceable.

Thanks guys.  I should have just looked at the knobs and tried it. Tried my SLX knobs on it and it works with the Calais knob retainer so I'm sure I can find some new knobs.

Deleted Account, this reel was inherited from my grandfather and weighs only 1.2 oz less than my SLX reel and Aird rod combined.  However it is so strong and smooth it makes me want to get some other high end aluminum reel like the Bantam.  The reel just oozes quality and smoothness out of every turn of the handle.
