It's been rediculous, and it's staying rediculous...

Sure enough a good one! I wouldn't be surprised to see the state record that has been held for like 29 years fall soon.

Does sharelunker ever publish if these giants are F1 strains or straight Florida bass?

I haven't seen them include that info on any of the posts that I've seen. I'm not seeing anything on their website either

I might be totally wrong, and you can call me an idiot if I am. But from what I can remember, they stocked pure Florida's in the early 80's and that's when the lakes (Fork in particular) started taking off. Then they started the SAL program in like 85 or 86 to keep track of the genetics. I am not sure how long they stocked pure Florida's but I would think they would all be F1's at this point.

Like I said, I could be wrong, but this would be my opinion.

I would imagine that's why they take a swab of all the fish over 7lbs caught in the BPT events, to see if they are F1's.

I just got back from lake murvaul and did some research beforehand.  TPWD is still stocking pure FL strain, I was able to find the years and quantity for that lake.  I think FL stocking is a continuous process statewide from what I gathered.

That's awesome. I figured I was wrong. I wish Oklahoma would stock more FLMB in our lakes. Actually, who knows, they may stock some, but they do a terrible job letting the public know what they are doing to better our wildlife opportunities,

Where I found it, so a 2014 FL or a 2015 F1?

scott

My edit, probably between 2010-13 really.  17 is giant!

That's awesome! No wonder they are producing GIANTS!!! Kudos to TPWD, whether you agree with the SAL program or not, if you fish Texas waters you are blessed.

Personally, I don't think SAL does that much except it's proof that the FL stocking is working and traceable.  So in the end, it is working and rather genius.  Unless they are always paired up with large FLLMB males, then you do kinda get a 2 for 1 genetically speaking.

I agree. I joined TFF and those guys are hardcore about the SAL program. I got banned because one of the long time members started calling me names because I made a post about people being jealous of Josh Jones. He went off on me and I told him what I thought. I am banned. No big deal though. Although I would like to see his reaction to these last couple JJ fish. I bet he is so upset.

I know there's haters in every corner of the world, but I'm always taken aback when I run into it in the fishing world.  JJ is capitalizing on a niche opened up by new technology and absolutely destroying everyone else in terms of numbers.  It'll be studied and talked about for years.  Congrats to him.

I agree. Just look at this guy, he went out with JJ and learned how to use his LS and now has a lake record. I've spent over $1,200 on a shotgun just to kill a few doves. A lesson on how to use LS would be worth it to me(if I had LS). I just wish I could read my Mega 360 LOL

Someday I'm gonna go full bait gorilla and get a little more current than my 1993 lowrance flasher, but I think a truck to get off my lake would be first.  And then there's the rehab we've been putting off.  I guess it's gonna be awhile.

I don't have anything fancy, a Helix 8 at the console with DI/SI and a Helix 8 at the bow with DI/SI and Mega 360. I honestly could catch just as many fish with a finder that told me depth and water temp as I have not taken the time to learn to use them correctly.

I'm sure you're right, knowing your water is most important in my mind.  But to me, mega 360 looks really useful.  Deep weedline turns and changes give me the best fish in the summer, but are challenging to line up with triangulation and long casts.  I think 360 would be super useful for that.

I wish I had the patience to use it correctly. I just want to fish when I'm on the water.

I get it, it's my one place to get away from screens.

I was on a Zoom call with my Administration during the pandemic in 2020 when schools shut down. I was sitting on the deck of my boat fishing with my phone on and my Superintendent said "Coach Bryant, are you fishing?" I said, "Yep".

TPWD Share A Lunker program has been studying FLMB genetics for a long time.

The issue with pure FLMB strains is surviving water lower then 45 degrees.

Gotta love the kids smile! 17+ is a true giant bass, O. H. Ivie is producing several teener bass lately.

I was really upset when they stopped making the electro survey data public.
