Lucas G. Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 I know it’s pretty early to make assumptions about this new reel but based on all the pictures I have seen it says otherwise. First off the reel is an exact carbon copy of the Curado 150 MGL that came out last year. It look like they changed the spool, added some core protect, and called it good to stick out on the market. I wanna know if anybody has opinions on if it will preform the same as the Curado since it’s a carbon copy. I was looking forward to the new Tranx this year but disappointed that they chose the lazy route for this series. They should have advertised this as a Curado with the way it’s the exact same. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted February 25, 2022 Super User Posted February 25, 2022 I might be wrong, but I think the Tranx line is made for saltwater use. Looks like a great reel to me. 1 Quote
garroyo130 Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 I believe the Tranx feature differences that aren't really easy to notice like thicker drive shafts. Im guessing it may not have a plastic worm shaft either? Now if the part numbers on the schematic are exactly the same as a Curado then yeah, thats disappointing. Quote

They are used primarily for saltwater but this model is a complete copy of them Curado. 39 minutes ago, garroyo130 said: I believe the Tranx feature differences that aren't really easy to notice like thicker drive shafts. Well they are still working with the same super compact frame so there isn’t much that I think they can change. The weight barely changed so it was only minor changes. The specs are still the same and the weight hasn’t changed much that it makes it seem like they didn’t do much with it. The real test is to see its performance which I think will be nice but still can’t shy away from the fact it’s almost a complete copy. Quote

Except made for saltwater. So a Curado made for saltwater. Makes sense if you don't think too hard about it. 1 Quote

Yeah that’s agreeable but this means that next year they will have to come out with a completely different frame for the Tranx 300 and 400 series because that is what I heard a lot of people are demanding currently. Super User jbsoonerfan Posted February 25, 2022 Super User Posted February 25, 2022 They do things like this all the time. Release a series and then release different models based off the same series. Just like they did with the 70 Curado K. Quote

Yeah but the Curado 150 MGL was an absolute curveball for the Curado series but it payed off and I am very impressed with mine. Hopefully this tranx does well and I might look into buying it later on for some heavy snook and red fishing. Quote
Super User gim Posted February 25, 2022 Super User Posted February 25, 2022 I have a Tranx that I use for muskie fishing. Quote
Lucas G. Posted February 25, 2022 Author Posted February 25, 2022 Yeah but those are the older ones. They are great reels but just a little older. Everybody wants newer versions of the older ones and that’s it. Quote
Super User PhishLI Posted February 25, 2022 Super User Posted February 25, 2022 If it comes with the old school E series type VBS brakes like the Tranx 300 I'm in. Oops, no dice. Oh well. Quote
garroyo130 Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 Here ... not the same, but i expect differences to be similar. Quote
Derek1 Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 The currado can be used in the salt. 1 Quote

The Core Protect on the new Tranx should make it a better option but we'll see. Personally I don't see much point in a 150 size if you are sacrificing the power the Tranx line is known for, but again it's too early to tell. Edit: I stand corrected, the 150 MGL is not rated for salt like the 200. Edited February 26, 2022 by Aaron_H Quote

Lucas G. Posted February 26, 2022 Author Posted February 26, 2022 All Shimano MGL spools are made of magnesium so that why is there isn’t a Shimano MGL that is rated for saltwater. And I wouldn’t want to test the magnesium frame either. Quote
