Huckfinn38 Posted February 24, 2022 Posted February 24, 2022 I purchased a few 5 bait rigs and some have two baits on the bottom and some have one. Which one works best as in reducing tumbling/spinning Quote

Which one works best as in reducing tumbling/spinning Symmetrical has worked best for me and most of my spinning/tumbling has been fixed by adjusting for symmetry, re-rigging my baits to be straight, and sometimes using one heavier head in the center/low position. I actually seem to have better results only making weight changes to that head. I do 2 dummies/3hooks, 2 hooks are always 1/8oz and the center head I'll go up to 3/8, 1/2, or 3/4 if more depth efficiency is needed. I've only used g-funk and hogfarmer. scott 2 1 Quote

Super User WRB Posted February 24, 2022 Super User Posted February 24, 2022 Tumbling is caused by trying to cast too far without controlling slack line. slow down the rod tip speed and let the rod launch the rig. Same tumbling occurs with crankbaits. 5 wire A-rig put 2 dummies swimmer and 3 hooked swimmers. Tom 1 Quote
RDB Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 I don’t know if by tumbling/spinning you mean during the retrieve or the cast…I assume retrieve. If yes, I use slightly heavier jig heads on the bottom arms. I usually use either 1/16th & 1/8th or 1/8th & 1/4. In Texas we can have 5 hooks and I always use the max allowed. The only time I use dummies is on the Blades of Glory (Shane’s Baits) which has 4 upper and 5 lower. I use dummies on the upper. Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 25, 2022 Super User Posted February 25, 2022 During the casting. The retrieve is very slow and doesn’t spin or twist. Tom Quote
rangerjockey Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 2 on top, long wire in the middle, 2 on bottom. In Missouri we can only have 3 hooks. I usually use 1/8 oz heads on all 5 and cut the hooks off the top 2. Seems to balance the rig better . The majority of the time they are going to get the center wire anyway. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted February 25, 2022 Super User Posted February 25, 2022 I make my own and since we can only have 3 hooks I put blades on 2 of them. I set mine up with the bladed wires pointing up and out from the head. Two of the baited wires are pointed out and down. The 5th wire is in the middle. Quote
Huckfinn38 Posted February 25, 2022 Author Posted February 25, 2022 Yeah i was talking about rolling in the retrieve. The one i bought was not a square with two on the top one long in the middle and 2 on the bottom. It has one on the top 3 in the middle (left center and right) and one on the bottom. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted February 25, 2022 Super User Posted February 25, 2022 When I make mine all of the wires are together. I have to pull them apart and position them how I want them be. Quote

You can bend them to be where ever you want them. Quote
