schplurg Posted February 24, 2022 Posted February 24, 2022 She may be small but she's beautiful to me! After 6 skunky trips (from the bank) I finally got one. First of 2022 First Winter bass ever (maybe two months earlier than previous date) First jerk bait bass ever First fish from this pond Bonus: First crappie ever (Ya I've only been fishing 3-4 years) I did a lot of walking and hiking man - 6 trips with nothing - driving, hiking, looking for legal parking, cold. Most were bigger lakes too. It's a tough area for bass, at least for me. You don't have to suffer through watching that though, The video should start at the cast and catch. And ya I get a little excited sometimes. Every year it takes me many trips to catch my first and I always worry after awhile that I never will. I went to this pond thinking that after many sunny days in a row the water must have warmed some and maybe they'd be more active. Plus the pond is small. If there are fish here they will see my bait. Caught another here a few days later. I won't fish here very much, it's small. Saw lots of small fish though so that made me feel good. Let's see your first catch of the year, vid, photo! Thought it was a snag at first. 8 Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted February 24, 2022 Super User Posted February 24, 2022 Congrats...I'd say give me a month to 6 weeks..by then I should have my first bass of 2022 1 Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted February 24, 2022 Super User Posted February 24, 2022 Yeah, my first bass is probably at least a month away. More likely it will happen in April. 1 Quote

So my first fish of 2022 will probably be a sunny or crappie. 2 Quote
schplurg Posted February 24, 2022 Author Posted February 24, 2022 No new fish? Geez, way to support my thread guys!!! LOL And I thought I was starting this thread too late! I don't know if I can catch a fish anywhere else around here, but I'm going in a few days. Maybe tomorrow, got nothing else to do. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted February 24, 2022 Super User Posted February 24, 2022 I got mine on New Years, I've been doing "Last bass, first bass" for a while, where I go out on the 31st and the first, no matter the weather and catch at least one. Some years it's easy, some miserable. This year it was good until the first week of January, then went down hill fast. 7 Quote
Super User Bird Posted February 24, 2022 Super User Posted February 24, 2022 It's the same thing every year for me. I've yet to catch a fish with water temps in the 30's. Went yesterday in hopes of 1st fish in 2022 but apon turning the graph on, I see water temp at 39* so rode around marking waypoints. Lol 1 Quote
Bassbum1016 Posted February 24, 2022 Posted February 24, 2022 Jealous….haven’t been on the water since New Year’s Eve well done Quote
BassHRL119 Posted February 24, 2022 Posted February 24, 2022 Not the worst first fish of the year. Took me 2 skunkings to build up to this one LOL. Jerkbait. 51 degree water temp. Weight: 3.78lb. 5 Quote
Blue Raider Bob Posted February 24, 2022 Posted February 24, 2022 1st Largie of the year caught on RC Crawler. Nickajack Lake 1st Spot of the Year 14-3/4" 2 lb 3 oz caught on Mepps Dressed Aglia Tennessee River. Been slow so far. Four trips and five bass. Six hours on the river and two bites. This spot and an 8lb drum. Threw everything in the tackle box and broke out old reliable....the Mepps Aglia to whoop the skunk! 5 Quote
Blue Raider Bob Posted February 24, 2022 Posted February 24, 2022 Yes I know this isn't a bass but when you hook something like this drifting down river in current tossing a ned rig it still makes for an accelerated heartbeat! 8lb 13 oz and durn they can pull. These guys head straight for the bottom and have to be drug to the boat. I'll claim anything that swims to get the skunk out the boat! 4 Quote

Super User J._Bricker Posted February 24, 2022 Super User Posted February 24, 2022 Here’s a photo of my second bass of 2022 cause I didn’t get a picture of the first of the year. A sea lion was eating a bass about 75 feet down the channel from the boat so I knew I was around fish when this bass hit my bladed jig… 6 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 24, 2022 Global Moderator Posted February 24, 2022 Might have been this one? If it wasn't, this was one of the first ones of the year. Caught on a Berkley Stunna 112+1 from Lake Taneycomo, MO. 8 Quote
PotatoLake Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 Here’s my first bass of 22, a little dink from our neighborhood pond. Not sure of the water temps but I’d guess low 40/ high 30s. Got him on a green pumpkin colored chatterbait/ hog farmer trailer. I caught three in a row! Then poof. Nothing more. They were positioned along a mud line on a super windy day. 6 Quote
Super User PhishLI Posted February 25, 2022 Super User Posted February 25, 2022 Yesterday 2/23 at 1:50 AM. Not many chances to get out there with this winter's frigid cold and ice. A whisper under 3 lbs in 38* water. Bucca Baby Bull Shad in pearl bone. My gloves smell like bass again. Ahhhh. 6 Quote

It got up to 66 yesterday afternoon, but temps dropped like a rock, and when I left the lake this morning at 1AM is was 33 and my hands were on fire. 10 mph north winds. Brrrr. It's about to snow any minute. 2 Quote

I always sat with my back to the wall in the Hampton restaurants, I'm in decent area, but I will say that growing up on the border of Brownsville and East New York was good training for parts of Baltimore, and "Southern Maryland" is a euphemism for Mississippi... Ever roll through there in the late 60s-early to late 70s? I had no choice. Good times. I'm glad we're both still here to play ping-pong. Quote

Getting chased out of Connetquot was almost a weekly thing, and the bass fishing, well.... Quote
