Bean116 Posted February 24, 2022 Posted February 24, 2022 Hey guys, I’m just wondering if any of you have ever come across a blue spotted sunfish in the Susquehanna water shed. Any info would be great. Thanks! Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 24, 2022 Super User Posted February 24, 2022 Welcome to the forum! Haven't ever fished the Susqy, so can't help there. But I'm sure some have and will chime in. Stop by the Introductions forum and say hi . Quote
Fallser Posted February 24, 2022 Posted February 24, 2022 That's a new one for me. I've never seen one in SE PA. To be honest, didn't even know they existed. Though I just checked a PA Fish Commission "Fish of PA" poster I picked up at the Philadelphia Fishing show last Friday, and it's on it. From what I could find it's not something that you would be able to catch with standard fishing equipment. They're small. A trophy size one would be 4 inches. Apparently they feed on small, almost microscopic critters like water fleas. If I could find them, I could probably catch them one with my fly rod using flies tied on size 20 or smaller hooks. Look for weedy areas in slow moving water. If you catch one post a picture. They are in the Susquehanna water shed. And good luck. 1 Quote
