heartpats Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 I was going to pick up a phenix m1 casting rod for flipping and heavier jigs. i was wondering which model i should get. Quote
Super User Solution T-Billy Posted February 23, 2022 Super User Solution Posted February 23, 2022 Heavy, in the length you prefer for that technique. I personally prefer 7'3"-7'6" for pitching. If you're gonna do much actual flipping 7'11" might be the way to go. 1 Quote

softwateronly Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 I've read phenix feels a power down in the feather series. Does anyone know if the m1 might also feel like this? scott Quote

They are definitely a little lighter in power than my rods from Shimano and Daiwa, but not a whole level IMHO. 1 Quote
BssJnky Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 I have a Phenix feather MH that I fish 1/2 oz. baits with. It's about the same as my St. Croix Avid M. I also have an M1 ML that is pretty whippy. 1 Quote

I use the Expride 7'3XH and love it for target casting and dock skipping. I want this new rod to bomb out on deep, clear water weedlines and am looking for the extra casting distance with the backbone to set the hook firmly without having to resort to my actual swimbait setup. The specs on the M1 7'8H and FTX 7'7XH are almost exactly what I want the numbers to say, but I fear without handling it myself that the Phenix line might be too soft for my application. scott 1 hour ago, Big Hands said: I have several Phenix Feather rods, and I would say that it's closer to half a power down.
