CrashVector Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 Bought some Friday, used them for the first time today. I missed four fish in a row. Good bites, good hooksets, but couldn't get em. The lures were balled up and such, but no fish. Swapped back to my standard EWG hook and didn't miss a single fish for the rest of the day. Just a heads up. 2 Quote

Why would anyone trust anything someone says that thinks EWGs have good hook up ratio? G-locks are EWGs and suck just as bad as all others. Quote

Not all of them...just the g-locks. The regular EWG gamakatsu are awesome. 32 minutes ago, Deleted account said: Why would anyone trust anything someone says that thinks EWGs have good hook up ratio? Because I have a 95%+ hookup ratio using EWG hooks. 2 Quote

Brad74x Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 I use them all the time in 3/0 4/0 & 5/0 great hook up rates for me Quote

I could see the fish hit my lure. I set the hook, and they'd just spit it four times in a row. Swapped to the "normal" gamakatsu 3/0 EWG and didn't miss a single one after that. Glad they work for you, but I definitely will not be buying any more of those Quote
Brad74x Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 Yeah I don't know that's the only ewg hook I use any more I use the 3/0 for Texas rigged stick type baits and the 4/0 & 5/0 for thicker bodied baits Quote

For the record though, the thin wire 3/0 gamakatsu ewg hook is what I use on my pit Boss lures, and it has a nearly 100% hookup rate. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted February 22, 2022 Super User Posted February 22, 2022 Just for perspective, here’s the two hooks in question aligned similarly. Differences are subtle, but still there. Standard EWG G-lock EWG 1 Quote

I saw a Zman pro say(don’t remember who) he likes plain offset hooks with the hook point buried in the plastic ready to come out. Not the hook point laying flat against the worm like traditionally rigging an ewg. It seems the g-lock hook bends in a tiny bit, prob could open the gap some of you need to use them. i agree, I don’t have any problem using reg ol’ ewg hooks 1 Quote

waymont Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 I have an excellent hookup ratio with G-Lock hooks. Never had an issue with them. Quote
J.Bass Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 Personally I like all Gamatasku Hooks. I would say out of them all the EWG hooks are my favorite but I’ve used the G lock ones and still caught fish. To me it’s the operator who misses fish not the hook. I can tie on an eagle claw and still hook set a fish. It’s really the operator. Quote
