Today has to be the single most frustrating day of fishing I have ever had. I don't get to go very often so when I do I jump at the chance. The day started with gastrointestinal problems then added back pain and stuff around the house taking up my time. I finally go at about 4:45 and decide on a small pond close to home in case my guts give me trouble I can get home fast. It was a blustery 70 degree day with lovely 25mph oklahoma winds whipping so I decided no super finesse that requires no weight or very light weights. I have a t rig with a ribbon tail, a slip bobber and Berkley Realistix power minnow under it, and a small road runner with a Bobby Garland Baby shad. Its super small and pressured so I figured that going small might help. Well it did and I got a bite and lost it, another bite and another lost fish. Might have been sunfish but I don't care I want to catch it. Break off the bobber rig on the ultra light, snag the t rig in a tree and lose it. Tied on a swim jig and lost it second cast because of wind and the previous casts back lash that crimped the line bad enough I guess because it flung off on the cast. So I throw one of those Power Minnows on the roadrunner and commence to get three more bites all to be lost at the bank.

Now I'm home, hurt worse and think I'm actually sick with a stomach bug and annoyed and frustrated about my outing.

Positives from it though, I figured out where they were, what they wanted, and just sucked at everything else. So I will take that as a positive that my hard work and learning over the few years got bites.

I remember going out in Feb last year, water temp was 40 degrees and I launched the boat. Wind was blowing out of the south bad. I pulled up on the bank and hit the power pole button as I got out of the boat to park the truck. I suppose my weight caused the nose to dip and the poles to lose contact. By the time I got parked the boat was floating away. I watch for a minute or two and realize I had no other option. Strip down and swim the 50 yards or so to get the boat. So, it could be worse.

Could have been worse, like being on the best bite of your life while being half a fart away from catastrophe and having to leave. Been there. Stupid Taco Bell.

Funny, I had the same reaction as you, due to taco bell. Never again after that day.

Or you could be half past catastrophe.

Been there, in the river with the current hauling my boat away. I had it easier though. Water was a balmy 48 degrees for my swim.

Two of my rules on fishing day especially when far from the van or home:

1. never eat food I wouldn't normally eat. I don't want surprises! Don't choose fishing day to experiment with my diet!

2. be prepared so that if a problem does rear its ugly head I don't necessarily need to leave to solve it. I leave that to each individual to solve, just be as ecological as you can about it!

Most frustrating so far: I guess a couple years ago when my back went out after hiking half way around the lake. Like eventual emergency room bad. That was painfully frustrating.

As a life long Florida fisherman with shallow weed filled waters,  to go to a mountain lake with little vegetation, draw downs, and just structure changes to key into, it’s like fishing on the moon.  I have rented mountain homes on lakes with depths of 150 feet and a skunk is not usual for me in these clear small mouth lakes.  I have such admiration for the pros that have to adjust to these conditions regularly.

Also never leave home without toilet paper!

My wife always does some kind of special order no matter where we go (sit down, fast food, pizza, wherever). She will absolutely under no circumstances just order something the way it comes on the menu. They mess it up 97% of the time, yet she is still shocked by the mistake 100% of the time. I just have to shake my head.

That's funny. Mine's exactly the same. Even getting her a bagel is made complicated. The worst is when she texts her order to me while I'm on the way home from work, then I have to transmit a novel at a restaurant. So many messes. I got smart and now transcribe her dictates to paper, then hand them to whoever's taking the order. Mama mia

Man I feel your pain....except my same situation was not nearly as bad. My boat slipped the dock rope and started to drift but another fisherman was heading in and saw the issue. He pulled my boat back. If not I would have had to do what you did!

A-Jay

2:26 "I make this face" ?

I thought the saying goes "When the wind blows from the west, the fish bite the best." Apparently the fish did not care about that on that day. Those fish should know better! When A-Jay's fishing it's time to bite!
