The only tournament I ever fished (It was a tiny tournament.) was for muskies. I was paired with another woman. Musky fishing is macho and we were feeling the heat, even if it wasn't there, as the guys were nice.

So, my partner hooked a musky and I netted it and we were so happy that we put a fish on the board, which meant we belonged, that I simply dropped the net into the water to photograph the fish. I didn't realize I'd lost the net until I caught it on my next cast. It was a big net, which likely helped me catch it.

It does kind of have that macho man kind of feel to it because the primary demographic are young to middle aged males. I kinda feel like the pro bass tours are the same way nowadays.

My Mother fishes a state walleye circuit every season. She started doing it with her Father and/or Brother about 15 years ago and enjoyed it so much that she just kept doing it. Now she does it with her husband (my Father) or a close friend that she met through her own Father years ago. I don’t even really see her in the summer time anymore because she’s off fishing a walleye tournament.

okay.  i was maybe 20 years old.  i drove a Jeep Cherokee that i slightly lifted.  i thought my poop didnt stink.  haha.

i was at a gas station filling up.  a young lady pulled in, and i absolutely puffed out my "plummage", and started working the system.  i was talking and talking.  she was laughing.  in my stage of...errr..rut.  i forget to remove the gas hose from my jeep.  i was trying to follow the girl!!  she was moving her car, i was moving my car..and i hear a weird noise.  it sounded like rubber stretching.  i see her look back at me, with her eyes wide and huge.  right then the nozzle comes out of the filler hose and like a stretched out rubber band, slings the nozzle into the soffit/canopy.  it explodes a light.   the gas station manager runs out screaming.  the girl laughs and drives off.

the hose didnt break.  it stretched a lot!!  the gas station guy tells me to find gas elsewhere forever.  i have never felt so stupid in my life.  thankfully, while i have had moron moments..but that is my only "the moron moment".

I was fishing on Tims Ford one fall day. We were catching fish pretty good that day on crank bait. I remember, for some reason, that parrot was a color we used a lot then (and there). Anyway...it was getting about time to go and I had made a long cast and was acting like I had a fish on. "There he is"..etc...etc. Partner gets the net and I kind of started laughing. He throws the net down mumbling. Then...about that time the drag starts buzzing. I was like "No really...there he is...". Partner is not going for it this time. Then a three pound smallie burst out of the water and dives....drag is screaming now. My partner is now holding the net next to me. I get the fish in close to the boat...partner bends down to scoop. When he lifts the fish out of the water...the crank bait is caught on the rim of the net...and the fish is hanging on the outside of the net!!...then it falls back into the water. He throws the net down and says, "Thats what you get."

The hoses now have convenient breakaway attachments to the pump and can easily be reattached when someone does what you did…..  at least that’s what a friend told me… I wouldn’t know ?.

While fishing a small tourney, I was having a good day. Started culling after about 2 hours and culled several times before the tourney was over. Started putting my fish in my live bag for the weigh in and realized I only had 4 fish. I thought I had my limit early in the day and began culling accordingly. In these small tournaments we fish, we only pay first place and "big fish" prizes. I came in second by 12 ounces.

Four years of college shot to hell. Duh!!!

Wow, such a logical recommendation from the guy from New Jersey. Windshield lol I'll have to remember that one!

I was about to say, that’s not normal tempered window glass, that’s lammy. Didn’t know about that on newer vehicles. Lammy will cut you up bad too if you’re not careful.

I had no idea it was Lammy on the newer vehicles. My keys, phone were right there on front seat. Live and learn.

That happened to me several years ago - truck locked itself ?

It was 3 AM on the way to the lake and I was getting gas and not in the middle of the everglades.

Called 1-800 onstar from the Quik mart and they unlocked it from 'space'.

Took 2 minutes and I was on my way.

Key fob lives in my pocket now.

Glad you had your phone! I couldn't even send smoke signals lol .My truck has never just locked itself like that without me pushing the lock button. I've unloaded it many times with no issues. Now I know better. My fob comes out with me ALL the time no matter what. I'm also getting a spare key to hide on the vehicle. I did that on my last truck and it saved me a few times. Just hadn't gotten around to doing it on the new Ranger.

<snip>

This happened when I lived in MT, but I did grow up in NJ.

You laugh, but I too once had to break a window to get in, it was an older Jeep Grand Cherokee.  I chose the smaller of the windows and broke the little angled piece on one of the rear doors.  Then I went to replace that glass.  The glass guy then educated me saying that the windshield is 'usually' the cheapest piece of glass to replace.  The windshield would have been way cheaper, at retail, than that little piece of side glass.  He then suggested checking junk yards and walked me through how to actually remove that smaller piece of glass 'in the field' so I had the proper dewalt battery with me and knew how to hook it up to the window switch to lower the main window to so I could remove the frame piece and get the angled piece out.  Anyways, haven't had to do it since, but if ever I need to get into a vehicle by breaking the glass, the windshield is up first.  At a minimum, I'll try try to search for replacement costs first if cell coverage is available.

Might be a tough ride home with no windshield. I’ve had gravel

chip my windshield many times, don’t wanna know how that feels on your forehead at 55 mph. I keep a spare key……

I see your point....but, look, man, I broke the driver's side as much out of anger as anything else because my phone and key were right there on the front seat. To be honest, the last thing on my mind was the type of glass and the last thing on my mind was to break the windshield. Besides, I had to drive home a very long distance late at night and that wouldn't go so well with a smashed in windshield. I made it back fine and got the window replaced in a few days. My focus now is preventing stuff like that from happening again, with anything, really, gotta be prepared for ANYTHING in the fishing world!

Agree with all the points made, particularly having spare keys/fobs.  Totally understand the decision made in frustration and anger as well.  In my case I was taking the Jeep back from someone not in any condition to have it nor to have been driving and I was ticked (had ignition key but didn't have the door lock key, had replaced the ignition prior and didn't have them keyed alike).   I'm not sure how easy it would actually be to break out a hole in the windshield and get to the door lock buttons and yeah driving home would suck (never did fold down the windshield on my Jeeps back in the day).  Overall, just one of those lessons learned, always have spares handy and if I have to break a window to get in, I'll try to research a little first.

Ever have your boat rope unhook when parking the truck? Well I have. Launched boat at a lake in middle Tennessee. There was nothing to tie boat to so I pulled up on shore as far as I could (not far), and figured I could park my truck and get back with no problem........ran back to the water and there was my boat drifting away!     Durn, I though while I started to strip down to get wet when providence shined and another truck with boat pulled up to the ramp. Immediately he spotted the problem and graciously offer to retrieve my boat! No telling what he was thinking! What a moron, I'm sure!

Had that happen to a friend but it got much worst after the boat got away. He was launching the boat and the boat's front eye would always catch on the winch roller. This day it didn't and he saw the boat starting to float into the bay.

He jumped out of his truck and into the water to grab the boat. It was then he realized he never put the truck in park. The truck rolled down the ramp.  The truck door was open and it quickly filled up. The insurance company totaled the truck. It wasn't even a year old.

That is the worst luck ever! Had a buddy park his brand new F-250 on a sand bar on the Elk River in southern middle Tennessee to go grabbing catfish. Several miles down river he notices leaves and branches drifting by. It hit him then that the water was rising because an upstream dam was releasing. By the time he got back to his truck the water was over the wheels. He tried to drive it out but it got stuck. Soon after the truck was heading downriver as it slowly sunk. Truck still had temporary tags!

on the opposite side of moron moment.  call it a stroke of genius that almost got me laid.

lady locked her keys in her jeep cherokee.  same year that i had.  mid 80's.  it had that tiny pivoting vent triangular window by the sideview mirrors.  i stopped her... "stop!...i got this"

i pushed on the tiny window relieving pressure on the lock. and using the mulittool i had spun it completely around unlocking her car.  i reached in flipped the lock switch.  BOOM!!

Yeah, how bout the time I tied a rope on my new anchor on the Tennessee river, threw it out and watched the untied end of the rope slip over the side of the boat.

Real genius that day for sure!

I did this some years ago fishing with my dad.  We were in about 4 FOW and he told me to drop the anchor.  A couple of minutes later I spotted something on the surface and started casting at it.  It finally dawned on me I was casting at the anchor line floating on the surface.

Well I just pulled a good one. Went to cabelas was in a rush because I knew exactly what I wanted. I was there for a new spinning set up. Got the spinning reel and when I got home realized I got a casting rod instead. On the plus side I upgraded the rod I was putting off. The down side I am still down a set up now.
