backyardfishing Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 I currently have to car top for the time being. I am 55 and a 100% disabled vet. I am looking at a motorized kayak and/or one to motorize. I have looked at the Old Town models but currently leaning towards the Nucanoe Unlimited and Perception Outlaw 11.5. I fish mainly lakes and reservoirs. The Unlimited weighs around 84# and is 41" wide but the opportunities are endless with it. The Outlaw 11.5 weighs around 77# and is 35" wide. I`d like to hear any feedback and suggestions. Quote
Jmilburn76 Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 I think your best bet would be a trailer to make it easier to load/unload. You have to keep the total weight in mind by the time its all rigged out, it all adds up quickly. My Native slayer weighs well over 100 the way its rigged. and after fishing all day in the summer heat its all I can do to get it loaded into my truck bed if I don't drive my Jeep and trailer. I think above all else is to demo the kayaks your interested in if you have a dealer close-by or you can find anglers willing to let you try out their rigs if you use Facebook there are tons of owners groups etc. Welcome to BR, please always wear a PFD! Hawkeye21 Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 NuCanoe. The reason I went with NuCanoe originally is was for it's open deck and great stability. It's an open canvas when it comes to customizing. I started by just paddling it then added a pedal drive. Now I have a bow mount trolling motor on it. I can switch between the three styles of propulsion depending on the body of water or tourney I'm fishing in easily. It's also cheaper than buying the high end kayaks that other brands have. Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted February 22, 2022 Super User Posted February 22, 2022 I have the AP 120. I truck bed load it, no extender. The seat, my net, and two lithium batteries (80 and 30 Ah) stay in all the time while everything else comes out into the truck cab. I couldn’t think about lifting it onto the top of a car myself without some type of aider. I’m 40 and fit. that said, it’s an amazing fishing machine. I stand to fish the whole time on the water. Spotlock is now mandatory for any boat I use. The lack of dryhatch storage (or general in built storage) is annoying, but that just goes to show that it’s being compared to a boat and not a kayak in expectations. if you’re in nj or can get here you’re welcome to try it out.
