I'm probably the exact opposite... If I find something new that works or a good spot, I wouldn't be able to stop talking about it to anyone who was interested...

Years past trout season was..........Put in Take out. At all restocking's.  I wanted my share. So I just used a bare lead head jig 30' from the truck discharge pipe. I did what is needed to do my 5 limit back then

Most of the lakes I fish are pretty heavily pressured.  So you don't have a secret spot, unless you only go there between 2-4 a.m. in the wintertime on a new moon.  It's extremely rare for me to be fishing somewhere without having at least a few boats close.

I've used my machete to hack my way to "new" spots on the creek. They couldn't have been reached before I hacked, so I figure nobody has fished the spot in at least a year or two.

Sometimes these spots don't take a lot of work to get to. Often when you're walking around looking for spots you may see a good piece of water but no easy way to reach it. Too many bushes. That's where Mr. Machete comes in handy! I'm like Indiana Jones except without the hat, cool whip and hot chicks.

Even though I have a brand new kayak I still love river and creek fishing.

There is no such thing as a ''secret fishing spot'', especially in today's age with Google Earth making it easy to find a new fishing spot. Just because someone knows where you fish does not mean they will have the same level success you have. For example, there is a lake I caught a double digit bass that thousands of people visit every year, most of those people think that lake has bad fishing since it is so highly pressured. Those people are wrong, that lake has great fishing, you just have to be patient and know what lure to use, when to use it, and what time to use it. That is one of the things I like about fishing, the more hard work you put in the more you are rewarded.

No such thing as secret spot, sure.

But there is such thing as too much advertisement for a good spot, especially on a medium or small size water in an big urban agglomeration.
Posting a fishing report about big river with information where you put in makes no difference.

But post a successful fishing report about a medium or small size river and you might find it crowded next time and there is only so much room in such places especially when access points are few.

A lot of people have asked me over the years where I catch most of my fish in pictures. I tell them it's private. If they have a boat I'll take them in and fish with them Or they can ask the landowner. But this is one of only two gates that lead into the place. Thus far, not one person has taken me up on the offer. So the place stays pretty exclusive.

I only share spots with people I trust, or People that have no idea how to fish .?

I will tell some people a lake that I do well on , especially those that are visiting and may only fish it a few times.

Finally, I have no interest in fishing another mans fish, ever.

I've been given fish with the intent of me targeting them, down to the bait they were eating.  Even with that info, it can be very difficult to catch another man's fish.

However, the intent is never to turn a spot you worked to find into a community hole.

I noted that I have no interest in fishing another mans fish.

So the Catching doesn't come into play.

I'm being more guarded about many of my fishing locations in my videos now.

Sure there are secret spots, but they aren't at the local pond, or to be found by boat in Clear Lake. They are found on rivers and creeks by people like myself who are willing to hack through brush and do some hiking to get there.

If you are adventurous enough you can carve out your own spot. It may be a long hike, or only a few hundred yards upstream from a known spot, but if I had to hack away brush and branches to get there I can be sure nobody else has been there for at least a little while.

Someone else may discover my trail afterwards but yes, it is possible to find new virtually unknown locations, at least in that sense. I'm sure 98% of fishermen aren't willing to do it. I showed a video of me hiking and exploring here and many commenters said "no way I'd do that", which is why I do! :)

Maybe there are "secret" spots on lakes...structure down deep etc. I know a spot at my Dad's lake where I catch 4 and 5 pounders right off the dock, and I almost always catch something. I watch the Wednesday night tourney guys blow right past it every time. I may have to do that tourney one day.

There is one lake I wont tell anybody about or take them to. I have fished this little lake 40 years and only 3 times has there been another person fishing it at the same time. Its has beautiful clear water, its a walk to get to, have never been skunked, theres gills crappie bass cats. I have posted pics here of some catches but wont tell or take even my best friend and best man at my wedding to this spot. I havent even taken my 2 sons they are 21 and 16.

Its MY happy place.

Thats the saddest dang post I have read since I have been on here... u won't even take your own 2 sons!??? Guess we fish for COMPLETELY different reasons...

To each their own I guess...
