Bass Raider 10 transducer mounting help....

Well I bought the Rig-Rite trolling motor mount and have used it several times with good result...but there is several things that concern me here....

1.  I have come very close to pinching the cable when folding the trolling motor up for transport.

2.  The cable sometimes gets loose enough to get back towards the prop.

Would it be better to mount the transducer on the back right pontoon about 2inches up from the actual bottom so It doesn't bottom out when casting off and shoring.  This would allow the cable to be run inside the boat and no worry of the cable getting pinched or cut from the prop.  As for the mounting screws just use marine grade silicone to seal it up tight.  :-/

Have you ever heard of wire ties (zip ties)?

Use them to attach the transducer cable to the trolling motor shaft with enough slack in the cable around the mounting bracket so you can tilt the motor.

Lowes, Radio Shack, electrical suppliers, Walmart, K-Mart, auto supply stores are a few places that stock them.

HAHA, yes...

I was looking for a cleaner way of doing it.  I have wire ties now on there...but with such a long cable things can and will happen.

I use zip ties for my foot controlled tm mounted ducer.  I zip tie the ducer cord pretty tight onto the tm but leave the cord a little loose in areas that requires movement for turning and tilting.  IMO, it looks pretty clean and uncluttered.

I have the bass raider 8 and i use the zip ties as well.  I actually learned the hard way and cut a ducer cable while tilting,before the zip ties.  But with the zip ties I havent had any issues.  I actually dont run the cable past the tilting part of motor anymore.  I just run it up to the bottom if tilting part then over too the sonar.  I have the extra cable wrapped up and zip tied in a neat bunch to keep it out of the way.  I think the best way is to just keep an eye on the cable while your tilting so it dosen't get caught.   ;D
