I must be doing somping wrong/right. Idk

4 baitcasters running 20# Power pro and never experienced digging.

I do however use my net handle for break offs.

That’s because what you’re doing is not only  smart, but also practical. By removing the spool from the line-freeing pull equation (what an algebra teacher might say when they tell you to isolate the variable, lol), to free a snagged lure or to break of the line, there is zero chance for line dig. ?

I have also used 20# braid without line dig issues too. I use a dowel of if I forget one, I find a branch or something around me that will do the job.

I wouldn't - tried 20# PP on a BC - removed it and went to 30#....20# is just too thin IMO.

*That was my point:

On a bait cast reel  : Minimum line size is Power Pro #30 lb. braid (.11" / .28mm diameter) or equivalent other braid size to prevent bait cast reel braid line digging issues. Lastly , wind on new line tight using a rag for a good grip and to prevent braid line burns to your hand.

This thread keeps getting bumped lol. I picture people anxiously clicking awaiting some type of line conditioner or new method of spooling line only to be told to hold it tightly while reeling in the lure ...

You are right.

A lot of us bass guys also go after other  fish for food. Most are smaller than the big bass. So we have & use stuff around 4# test braid. . Smaller & much lighter lures.  As I move around looking for the big SMB I also am casting for perch. I really cast 4# perch rod more often at each stop. The bass rule any location they are at. Perch do not dart out for any lure then.

Cast SMB first. Then do the perch & Crappie casts  last at each stop.  It has helped me enjoy both fish more.

You're actually eating freshwater fish from Jersey and New York?

It's all starting to make sense now...?
