Super User Popular Post Catt Posted February 16, 2022 Super User Popular Post Posted February 16, 2022 One of the ponds we fish has limited access since hurricane Laura. It's about a hundred yards through brush, briers, & laydowns. I decided this morning, I got this! One laydown I had to climb up & over. Standing on top I thought that wasn't bad. Right foot slipped fell backwards into a brier patch, hurt my right foot, left knee (bad), left hip, left elbow, & cracked my phone screen. But I didn't get skunked! Caught three with one over 4# What we put up with to catch a bass! 33 3 Quote

RB 77 Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 Drop Shot! Haha. Actually, the first time I ever threw a Ned Rig was on a lake I had never took a doughnut on before and time was running out. As a Hail Mary, I grabbed one of the NR I had thrown in my box and cast it out... A couple hops and pops later, wham-o! I ended up CRUSHING them on that ledge with that thing while my buddy watched in disbelief! Haha 1 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted February 16, 2022 Super User Posted February 16, 2022 Tommy unfortunately this isn't the first time you've taken a fall to go catch a bass, but what I'm sure of is that it ain't stopping you from trying! And you were successful! Love the positivity, makes me want to get out there more myself. Hope you're feeling alright in days to come 1 Quote

There was a time back in my prime.. Many times I've waded marshes with alligators 10 yards away. I've fished in sleet, we had to stick our rod in the water & shake it to get the ice out of the guides. Now the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak! 3 1 Quote

But apart from that, a lot of things some people consider dangerous nowadays are no more dangerous than taking a long car drive. I try not to restrict myself too much, but also try and keep some sense of safety about me. It's worked pretty good so far 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 17, 2022 Super User Posted February 17, 2022 I am not 22 anymore and see the old man in the mirror looking back at me. In my minds eye that old man isn’t me everything still looks the same. The problem is I can’t tie my shoe laces without putting my foot onto something elevated. My wife wouldn’t let me go fishing by myself after spine surgery something I liked to do. When my son passed away I lost my fishing partner and sold my boat and nearly all my tackle. Now I get out occasionally and want to be able to help launch boats, something I have done all my life, but whoever is taking me me is looking at a old man. I don’t understand this because through my eyes I m still 22 and capable of doing everything I have always done. What happened to my agility? Why I am I so stiff and clumsy? It’s that old man in mirror fault ! Tom 17 Quote

Even if it means opening a can of worms — literally and figuratively speaking. Bluegill mode is the converse to beast (bass) mode, lol. 3 1 Quote

It’s just my opinion but I think you’re way better off with weak (and it’s probably not as weak as you would lead us to believe) flesh and a strong spirit than the other way around. Hope you heal up quickly. Edit: and I’m glad your efforts to not get skunked were not in vain. 1 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted February 17, 2022 Super User Posted February 17, 2022 I don't drink when I fish, but I always have a beer on the ready. When it looks like I'm gonna skunk, I crack open a beer, problem solved. I might not have caught a fish, but at least I had a beer. And I won't drink more than one if I am driving home, so when I crack that one open, the day is over. 1 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted February 17, 2022 Super User Posted February 17, 2022 I try to keep fighting through a tuff day. A lot get tough. A Rat-L-Trap has saved the day many of times. Many of times I’ve had to throw at the bank and fish that narrow section where the bank meets the grass. Small bass seem to hang there up at the lake. I believe they set there all day and hunt down small shallow water bluegills. PowerWorms or PowerGrubs seem to work well when I’m begging for a bite. But that 10” green fish keeps me from getting skunked. Quote

Super User Bankc Posted February 17, 2022 Super User Posted February 17, 2022 12 hours ago, slonezp said: Define skunked. No bass or no fish? I'll often target some white bass if the fishing gets slow. They're usually easy to find and catch. If it's bad enough, I'll throw on a crappie jig and hit the docks for a bluegill or gizzard shad. Though I don't often mind getting skunked. Most of the lakes I fish are extremely pressured and not good habitats for black bass anyway. So getting skunked is fairly common. There are better lakes further away, but then I'm spending more time driving than fishing, and I'd rather not catch fish with my pole in the water than not catch fish in my car. Quote

Catt, I fixed this for you...I know because somehow, like WRB, age seems to have snuck up on me when I wasn't looking. We older guys who refuse to concede to age and weakness of the flesh make up the difference with guts and perseverance. ? 1 1 Quote
