BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted February 16, 2022 BassResource.com Administrator Posted February 16, 2022 Is braided line the best all-around fishing line? Not in my opinion. But there are specific situations where it's best. Here's what I mean: 7 Quote
InfantryMP Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 I used to use braid a lot more than I do now. It is on my top water rigs, and one flipping setup. I think the non stretching attribute, and the ability like mentioned to cut through pads etc are what makes it really great. 3 Quote

I would add cost effectiveness and flexibility w/ or w/out leader choice to this list. scott 2 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted February 16, 2022 Super User Posted February 16, 2022 I use it because I like how it cuts my hands, and untying it off trebles helps with dexterity and cognition, not to mention green is my favorite color... 1 7 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted February 16, 2022 Super User Posted February 16, 2022 complete and total absence of line memory lower mass/inertia on b/c spool farther casting with everything 14 Quote
cyclops2 Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 On my spin reels the 6# braided after about a week of use everyday becomes soft as silk. SOOO It is the best line for the lightest lures cast into some wind. Most 6# braided tests out to 12 + breaking strength. As the green color coating fades away. You need to use a NON slipping knot. Some will untie easier when wet. I have added a 1/2 hitch to the end of the line FIRST. Then I use a Trilene knot. The 1/2 hitch sides right into the main knot & JAMS TIGHT. No more lost lures to snags or big fish. 2 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted February 16, 2022 Super User Posted February 16, 2022 I fish deep and mostly vertical for saltwater fish. I'm hoping this year I can reduce the bow in my line by using a stronger test braid with a diameter of thinner, lighter mono lines. 1 Quote
TNBankFishing Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 Having the ability to change my leader to whatever pound test I want for each and every situation makes braid superior as a mainline. There are two situations I’ll use flouro as the only line. Deep cranking, and ultra finesse spinning gear in crystal clear water. 4 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted February 16, 2022 Super User Posted February 16, 2022 It lasts forever (and thus cheaper). It doesn't have line memory. It's thinner. It casts better. It doesn't stretch. I use it for most everything, sometimes with a leader, more often without. I only have two reels without braid. One with mono for topwater treble hooks, and one with Yo-Zuri Hybrid for shallow to mid depth cranks. Though, like the video states, braid isn't good for rocks and shells. However, I don't often run into rocks or shells. So that's not a concern for me. 4 Quote
PressuredFishing Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 Yay another video! I try to use a good mono or coplymer 90% of the time, it knots well, is versatile, and has stretch for treble baits. I only use braid for one reason. Heavy gauge hooks. Quote

GReb Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 I tried to like braid. Now I just keep it in a frog rod. 2 Quote
Oklahoma Mike Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 I use braid or braid to leader on a majority of my setups for the plethora of reasons listed already in this thread. There definitely techniques where I want straight FC or copoly or maybe even mono, but I can get the majority of my fishing done with braid as my main line with less problems and better overall performance. 3 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 16, 2022 Super User Posted February 16, 2022 I use braid for topwater, heavy cover, and on spinning gear with a leader for some finesse applications. But as general purpose line, I don't care for it. I look at as another tool to use for specific jobs. 2 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 I like braid for line handling and bite detection first, and the added strength in the situations calling for it. In my experience, bass are not line shy, ymmv. 6 Quote
Blaine Donders Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 I still need to work on my feel, so in the meantime I use braid on bottom contact for sensitivity. 1 Quote
keagbassr Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 I use braid because it is the best 'all around line'. 2 Quote

Super User WRB Posted February 17, 2022 Super User Posted February 17, 2022 Grew up fishing with braid in the 50’s it’s all we had. When mono became popular along with free spool Abu reels braid disappeared for me. When super braids came out in the 80’s tried it for bass fishing and put it away, but liked it for back up line on my Big Game ocean reels doubling the line capacity. Like Glenn Braid has 1 purpose cutting through aquatic vegetation. Tom 2 Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 17, 2022 Super User Posted February 17, 2022 I've tried other lines for various reasons. I just keep coming back to braid.i don't catch any less fish than the guy with flouro in my boat. Braid handles far better. It's also contrary to popular opinion way easier to get a backlash out of. And I fish crankbaits With. Braid over rocks with no issues. 3 Quote
The Maestro Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 For me I feel like braid adds to the whole fishing experience. The rock solid hooksets and that squealing when you lock into a big one. The zero stretch when you're pulling one through the weeds or how it let's you feel every head shake during the fight. The ability to rip baits free from weeds so much easier. I picked up a spool of Tatsu this year because I want to give flourocarbon an honest try but unless I see convincing evidence that it produces more bites I doubt I'll like it enough to use it over braid for most applications. 2 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted February 17, 2022 Super User Posted February 17, 2022 I fish 20# - 40# 832 in rock on a regular basis. I retie it a heck of a lot less than mono or flouro. That Gore fiber lives up to the hype. Hands down the best performing braid I've ever used. I use mono for trebles and small single hooks, and 832 for everything else these days. 2 Quote
RB 77 Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 To accommodate technique or equipment specific applications. Technique/ cut vegetation - Froggin' (straight) & Punchin' (straight). Equipment/ eliminate line twist - spinning reels (w/ leader). Quote
