What is your current favorite mid - priced ($7.99 to $12.99) hard jerk bait that runs 2ft. ~ 5 ft. down ?  Based on the parameters , this would include such shallow running , mid - priced jerk baits as : Rapala Shadow Rap , Shadow Rap Shad , Yo-Zuri 3DB Jerkbait , Ima Flit , Smithwick Rattlin Rogue , Strike King KVD 200 , SPRO McStick 110 , etc. Your thoughts and experiences ?

I don’t fish a jerk bait a ton but I’ve had pretty good luck with shadow rap deep. It’s advertised at the deep end of the range you’re talking (6’) but with my setup it seems to run shallower. More like 4-5’. It’s been a good producer for me when I do fish a jerkbait. It seems to outshine the others I have in my boxes when I’m fishing close to bluff walls or steep transitions.

Only fished a couple of the ones you listed, but the Shadow Rap and Shadow Rap Shad are solid producers. Rapala RipStop as well.

KVD 200 I’ve caught a ton of fish on them including one of my biggest 7lb on this jerkbait.

I’m not sure what line your using but It will go deeper with 8-10 lb fluorocarbon

I have caught some fish on the rapala shadow rap.

I did change out the stock treble hooks with stouter versions.

Sorry should’ve clarified that. I believe the setup I tie that on has 14# sniper. Its for sure on the heavy side but it’s one of those deals where the setup is kind of a multi purpose combo that ended up being my favorite rod action wise for fishing a jerkbait.

X Rap or Yo-Zuri 3DB. Hard to choose but both are solid

x-rap or Husky Jerk for me.  Size 7, Size 9 seem to work the best. Depending on line they can run from 2' down to 6'.

The shadow rap has produced for me this time of year better than any other jerkbait

I love my LC Pointer 100s and 78s as they catch fish but they aren't my favorites. For the favorites I have 2, the trusty old X-Rap and the Smithwick Suspending Rattlin' Rogue. They don't get a lot of hype but they do catch a lot of fish!!

Helpful replies - thank you !  My current set up has #12 lb. Yo - Zuri Hybrid line on it but I may experiment with dropping down to #10 lb. YZH which is perhaps more in line with the sweet spot of line diameter size for hard jerk baits .

Shadow shad rap shad thing, both the skinny sinking one and the stubbier slow riser, which I actually weigh to suspend. Changing the hooks, and not hitting the bill on things are a must though...

I can almost always get them to hit a Husky Jerk as well. That being said, if the buoyancy and size are right, most any JB will catch in the right hands. I don't like the vision 110 and it's clones in really cold water.

12# YZH is thick. So is 10#.

I’d look at something with .26 mm or .28 mm diameter.

What color are you using?

I have not used one, but I saw Brandon Card tear them up with a Yozuri last year on an Elite event. At the very least you’ll know they come with very good stock hardware.

If you can wait for a sale, you might be able to get a Stunna or a Jackall Rerange for the top end of your price range. I’ve had some good days with that Jackall.

Smithwick Rattlin Rogue

The Rogue has been pretty consistent for me and I'd include anything Rapala.
