Well my two youngest decided they wanted me to start a basketball team so I could coach them in basketball too. So them two and a few others from their softball teams got a team together and we started practice about 3 weeks ago. We only had 3 practices and league was starting this week. We found a tournament to get in this past weekend so we could get a little practice in before league started. Went up there with zero expectations and came home with a championship ring. I could not believe how well they played. 6-0 to start my new "career" as basketball coach. Lol

Being a coach of anything for your kids is something neither of you will ever forget.

Best of luck to you all.

Well, just got home from our 2nd league game this week. Things are going way better than I expected. On Monday we were ahead 28-1 at half time and I told them no more layups in the 2nd half that we had to run the offense and shoot jump shots. Final score, 47-3. Tonight, the score at the half was 36-2. I told them the same thing. Final score 51-6. So 98-9 after two games. I sure hope the competition gets better.

Had an interesting one tonight. We are playing in a 5th/6th grade league. The team we played tonight won the 3rd/4th grade league last year so they decided to play up in the 5th/6th grade league this year. Well my oldest daughter rolled her ankle on Saturday so she was out tonight which really hurts us because she is by far my best player. I only had 5 girls play so I told them to watch the fouls. We got out to an early lead and their coach was livid. Screaming and hollering at his girls, pulling them out of the game, etc. Their fans were yelling at the officials. I assume they aren't used to losing. We were up 20-2 at halftime and once again I tell my girls no layups in the second half. Low and behold, he comes out in the second half in a full court press. I still told them no layups and this backfired on me as we turned the ball over trying to slow it down against the press. It was 24-10 when I called timeout and told them if they could beat the press and have a layup they could take it. We ended up winning 48-12 and he refused to shake my hand or say a word to me after the game. BTW, he pressed the entire 2nd half.

Kind of sounds like the Michigan vs Wisconsin game over the weekend. Hopefully he didn’t go juwan Howard on ya! (Google if you haven’t seen the video )

I finally read the background on that incident....funny you mention it, because late press in certain loss was contributing factor there....SI has good opinion piece that mentioned how sportsmanship has to start at youth league level

I know, when I read JB’s story I was like “wow this is crazy similar”

sportsmanship exists only inside the skulls of individuals and juwan Howard is not one of those individuals

This guy would have knocked me into next week. He was about 6'5 300 lbs. I would have been no match for him. Lol

Undefeated regular season. Finished 6-0, had 2 games canceled due to ice. Outscored our opponents 241-39. Played the end of season tournament today. Went 3-0 to win it all. Not bad for a team we just kind of threw together last minute. I will tell you one thing, as a coach, and I hope all coaches feel this way, I LOVE my players and am so proud of them no matter what happens. That being said, when you are successful, the feeling you have for them is indescribable.

Congrats JB, you seem to have a knack for coaching, having kids willing and eager to put forth the effort needed doesn’t help either.
