So on my kick to lose weight\get healthy we decided lets get an elliptical and a treadmill. So I dropped a grand on that...then my dryer went out. Needs a new belt, new idler pulley,  door latch etc..and its 10+ years old so I went out today and spent $735 on a new one. Then tonight I'm sitting in my living room...man its cold..touch my base boards heaters and yep boiler is out. Check thermostat and it says heat on. Go downstairs and the pilot light is out. Manually relight it and of course it won't stay lit. Pretty sure the thermocouple is bad..which we just replaced a few years back. Come on man.

I recently had my septic back up in my house. Spent $300 to pump tank. Did it again 3 days later.

had a guy come look at it. Had to have a new septic system put in, $7,400 later, we are good to go.

Let the anger flow through you…. And the use it for a good workout! You’ll never win against Mother Nature, Father Time, or their idiot son Murphy, so do what you can to channel it.

A thermocouple is 15 bucks. Better hope it's not a gas valve.

I can turn the gas knob to pilot push the red button in and get it to light but as soon as I let go of the button the flame goes out. I think its the thermocouple from what I understand.. I however am no expert.

I don’t know about a furnace but with gas fireplaces , blowing out the area of dust seems to solve that issue

Could still be the valve. Since you don't have the tools to check the output of the thermocouple, put a new one in and hope for the best. When you install it, the fitting that screws into the valve only needs to be turned 1/4 turn after it is sealed. If you tighten it anymore, you risk damaging the valve.

After you light the pilot make sure hold the button in for at least one minute. Also look to see if you have a good pilot flame hitting the thermocouple. I have to clean the pilot orifice on mine once in a while to get a good pilot flame. Hope you get it fixed without too much trouble.

When was the last time you had it serviced?

My old boiler would do that and I'd get it serviced/cleaned up and it would work like a champ. It since crapped the bed and I had a Navien put in. Love that piece of equipment.

Since it’s has a pilot light I’d say he’s gotten more than his monies worth out of the furnace.

We put new water heater, AC unit, and garage door opener in our house last year. Can't ever just have a little extra money laying around.

Well, the upside is that your house has probably appreciated 20% or more over the past few years.

It's a wash because the dollar has depreciated.

Home ownership isn't cheap and requires regular maintenance.  Neither are kids...
