I'm looking for a multipurpose bank fishing rod for reaction baits. I don't think I've tried a rod that's not fast or x fast before,  just been mono line on treble hook lures for that forgiveness. I fish mostly in the 1/2 ounce range but I have one favourite crankbait that weighs 3/4 ounce and would like a rod able to cast up to that weight comfortably. Wondering if you boys have any suggestions. I did run across one rod that seems pretty perfect the megabass destroyer madbull but it's very expensive and I am more comfortable buying $200 rods. Thanks!

Low end - Dobyns Fury 705CB - $130

Upper End - Dobyns Kaden 735CB - $190

I have the Fury and it's been a very good crank/topwater rod for me.

Dobyns Sierra 704c or 734c. The rod says H/F, but it fishes like a MH/MF. This isn't just my opinion. You can research the rod and you will find that it is THE all purpose moving bait rod in the Dobyns lineup that isn't specifically designated as a moving bait rod. Lure range is 1/4-1 oz.

Never tried a Dobyns, I'll look those up right away.

I have to say I'm kind of a Dobyns fan-boy. Of the 10 bass-rigs for the boat, 6 of them are on Dobyns rods, and I've designated two more to be upgraded to Dobyns next year.

I'm not the most fond of Dobyn's for bottom contact, but they make a darn good crankin' rod. Before buying I would do some research, I have been hearing that their quality is going downhill but that could just be hearsay. Anecdotally, I have a Dobyn's Fury 705 CB. Great rod for anything with treblehooks. Currently it is my designated small crank/big popper rod. I used it as a jerkbait rod for a long time and it did great. That being said I don't think it could handle a 3/4oz crank, and it sounds like the rods ironbjorn listed would be perfect for what you are looking for.

Megabass Levante EMTF seems like it would suit your application well, it is listed on their chart as being applicable to both cranks & spinnerbaits/jig hook reaction lures. However they just upped the price to 250, the rods were an insane deal at 200 and are probably still worth the extra 50, but if you look around on Facebook Megabass used rods groups you could probably find one used in the price range you listed. The action on those rods is not as "one note" as the Dobyn's rods are in my experience, which can be good or bad depending on your application.

It's a little pricey and maybe too long for shore fishing, but I find the 7'7H expride w/ braid to leader really versatile.  R2S TB crank, megabass deep 6, 1/2oz swim jig, a-rig, 6-7" soft swimmers on a jig head w/ an open hook, spinnerbaits, carolina rig, light pitching/flipping, swaver 168, gantarel jr, 6" bull shad, whopper plopper, football jigs...

I also really like the 734 and 706cb from the dobyns line up.

I'm an Abu Garcia fanboy, so I'd be partial to the veritas rods. I own several, and they perform well above their price point.

The Dobyns Kaden 735CB will cover your current needs very well.  It has sufficient power for spinnerbaits and bladed jigs as well.

I have a few Veritas Winch rods, and have no hesitation recommending them. They're light and sensitive for a cranking rod, and tough as nails. Price is right too.

I agree. You might want to look at the Veritas Winch rods. They are tapered for treble hooked, moderate actions. They will cover the weights your are fishing. Most likely MH.

I really appreciate the good info. I own 2 Abu Garcia IKE rods which I love but they are very stiff, gonna look into the winch rods though. I also had the Levante EMTF on my radar I just thought it was a little long. Now I did quite a bit of reading into the the Dobyns last night and they have so many good reviews that I'd really like to grab one and see what this brand has to offer. I do prefer 7ft rods for my bank fishing needs so the 704 Sierra that ironbjorn had mentioned seems like the rod I want.

My 2 cents. Get what ever you can afford that's on sale. (Or better yet, buy used) I've splurged on all my bottom contact and slack line sensitivity rods. I tend to spend less on my moving bait rods. Also if its a dedicated bank rod, its going to see more wear and tear, unless you're very disciplined and not trouncing through brush, weeds, mud etc you'll want a rod with a good warranty as well. That would steer me to St. Croix and Dobyns or Maybe Lew's. (side note: I used to have the 704, it was pretty noodle-like, if I was throwing 1/2 to 3/4 oz, id go 705, but that's just me.)

Falcon Bucoo trap caster or Low Rider all’round are good options.

I agree they wouldn't be bad choices, but for primarily 1/2 and then up to 3/4 I would suggest the Falcon Lizard Dragger, especially with mono.  A 1/2 oz crankbait on a trapcaster/all'round is fine.  A 1/2 chatterbait with a bigger trailer like a Zako is starting to push a trapcaster a little but it does it.  A 1/2 oz spinnerbait with a modest trailer (3" keitech paddletail) and you're working to control the rod.  It will do it and I fished it that way for a good while last  year but the 6-power Lizard dragger is a much better choice.  It flings a 1/2oz chatterbait a LONG way and is perfect for big cranks.  Going down to 3/8 in a hard bait will be a little light.  Then again a 3/4-1oz spinnerbait is back on the cards.

To the OP- you're right in the sweet spot for a ton of rods so just be clear in your head what you want to prioritize to get the best of your choice.

This is what I use. It delivers 1/2 oz out of sight.

Daiwa Tatula Elite Howell, 7'2" or 7'4" is perfect for this application. I like it so much I bought another one when I broke the original (handle in a car door). I even paid more than MSRP for it, because no one had it in stock anywhere.

Why? Really wide range, they call it a regular. Crankbait rod is too floppy for open hook baits like a chatterbait or a spinnerbait. Typical MH/F that I have all don't feel right to me for reaction baits. Throws squarebills, traps etc really far, and gets into the backbone fast enough that it's just fine all the way up to (but not including) the heavy braid-style swimjigs. Because of the softer tip, it scales down to lighter baits really well too.

I stopped throwing 1/2 oz chatterbaits on it because it was ever so slightly overloaded to me as the total weight with trailer was .85oz. And I have to rip out of heavy grass often and needed just a smidge more rod to do that.

Anyway, it is one of my most used, most versatile rods, and it is also the 2nd least expensive. And it has the dubious distinction of getting used for my PB too, which was on a jr buzz frog, which tells you how far down it can comfortably cast.
