Super User Spankey Posted February 13, 2022 Super User Posted February 13, 2022 Was wondering if any of you guys shoot the different discipline’s of clay sports. Nice weather break we had yesterday but was pretty windy. Made the targets more interesting. 100 sporting targets over 17 stations. The group I shoot with will shoot them all. Trap, Sporting, 5-Stand, Wobble, Wildcat and skeet. Most of area shooters stick to a single discipline. Not hard to find a club that’s open for shooting at some point during the week. I’ll shoot year round but find clay shooting to be more of a late fall and through the winter thing for me. Winter North East Weather can get pretty brutal. But we experience some exceptional day also. Not hard to find a winter trap league to shoot in. Covid has effected the clubhouse atmosphere, not quite what it was, but coming back. Shooter attendance has be somewhat down. Shotshells are hard to get out my way. Would be tough to walk into Wally World and get target shells. I’ve reloaded my own what seem like for a lifetime. But some component parts have been tough to get. Hopefully that will start to turn around. Though there might be some guys on here that like to grind clay up also. Hard to believe yesterday I was shooting in a L/S tee shirt, today it’s below freezing and a steady snow. 1 Quote

Super User Spankey Posted February 13, 2022 Author Super User Posted February 13, 2022 I know you said at one time you had a brother who is in greater Philly area. Thought he was lucky enough to pull off a job like that. LHVSC is pretty top notch. It is steep $$$, we don’t shoot there too often but that is where we were yesterday. A treat to ourselves. They run this place like a big time business. But we have a few clubs fairly local that are smaller time Sporting Clays and they have great targets and course setups. Quote
Super User gim Posted February 13, 2022 Super User Posted February 13, 2022 I usually do a round of the sporting clay course every October. It helps me get ready for pheasant hunting in November, and it’s just flat out fun too. Usually go with about 3 friends. I did a full course on the Saturday after Thanksgiving for part of a bachelor party. I shot pretty well too, 44 out of 50 clays. Shotgun shells have been very difficult to come by and when I find them, they’re expensive. I don’t see that changing for a while. Sporting Clays has exploded in popularity here as a HS varsity sport in recent years. The second most popular sport in recent years has been bass fishing. Go figure. 1 1 Quote

I’ve indeed got a brother in south Philly but my brother in law is who works at the gun range 1 Quote
