CrashVector Posted February 13, 2022 Posted February 13, 2022 I stumbled on a REALLY cool YouTube channel that I've been binge watching lol! The channel is "Old School Bass Fishing Vids". It has a lot of classic fishing videos from the 80's and 90's. Just figured a few people here would be interested. 12 3 Quote

Catt, the videos really contain a lot of information that is extremely useful to us in addition to throwing suspicion on some of the myths and beliefs we have about those little green monsters. Like there are two types of bass: in-shore along the banks and off-shore where you find the schools of hunters, like what we call, wolf packs, and both feed differently. It is also fantastic to see the bass inhale the baits and then spit them out without Uncle Homer ever noticing he had a bite. This is why scent is so important as it allows the bass to hold on to our baits for an extra second or two so we can feel them and set the hook. And then what Lau said about "stand alone docks." Guys in my bass club and many pros say to fish the docks that have nothing around them for cover. Lau says these stand alone docks may not hold fish, depending on their underwater carpentry. Blows that myth out of the water. Always nice to be able to go back and watch the old videos and compare them to what we know today. Happy Valentines Day! 4 Quote

I fish a lot of old school lures...lots of vintage heddon, smithwick, and arbogast lures, etc. I also use tube baits a lot, so it was fun to watch a whole show from the 80's about tubes when they first came out lol 27 minutes ago, bowhunter63 said: I remember some of them when they came out on VHS they are just as good today. Super User NorthernBasser Posted February 13, 2022 Super User Posted February 13, 2022 I love watching old videos. I used to have a collection of Babe Winkleman on VHS tapes I'd watch every year leading up to fishing season. Quote

I've said for years there are resident bass that stay within a certain distance from the bank. There are resident bass that live offshore & never see a bank their entire life even spawning offshore. And finally there's a resident population that move between the two. Resent radio telemetry study on Toledo Bend, Sam Rayburn, & Lake Fork proved it. 4 1 Quote

CrashVector Posted February 14, 2022 Author Posted February 14, 2022 I could watch these 80's fishing shows all day lol! It's a good way to pick up on some techniques that are overlooked nowadays. Back then, it was cutting edge, but 40 years later, a lot of it gets "bypassed" for newer stuff. Going backwards can be an advantage imo...using lures and techniques rarely used anymore can present something to pressured fish that they've not seen or gotten used to yet. 2 Quote
GANGGREEN Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 I think I started a thread on this years ago, but I would dearly love to find ALL of the Jerry Mckinnis "the Fishin' Hole" episodes on DVD. I've looked for them online and you can find some on Youtube, but not anywhere near all. I even tried to contact BASS and ESPN to inquire (didn't get a response from either). Surely I'm not alone and surely a boxed set of ALL of the Fishin' Hole episodes would be popular, at least with my age group and for the life of me, I don't know why they haven't reissued them for sale. Also loved Billy Westmoreland because he did a lot of what I still enjoy to this day (big smallmouth on light line). Quote
