I was (dumb)struck silent.  I Know the occasional rod snaps.  I get it. But when it happens, it gets awful quiet.

my first Dobyns rod broke today. A Fury 703.  I snagged a jig. I was really bummed when I thought I was gonna lose my lucky jig. I pull the rod tight to pull my kayak in the general direction of the snag and CRACK!   It popped into two pieces.   Trust me when I say I quit caring about the lost jig. Haha.   It must have had a hairline crack or something.  Oh well, at least the fishing store will be NOT BUSY super bowl Sunday.  I’m going rod shopping.   I am 99% sure I am buying the exact sane rod.  It just feels good to me.  It wings a finesse jig like a catapult.  I will paddle to the next snagged jig. :)

No hassle replacement program puts a new rod at fifty bucks plus shipping cost. FYI.   I broke a rod awhile ago. My stupid fault.  I had a replacement in about seven days. The process is simple.

Bummer. I probably put more strain on my rods pulling the canoe when snagged then I do catching fish, thanks for the warning.

I high sticked a fish a couple of weeks ago and broke 7" off the tip of my favorite worm rod.  It was a custom rod so I built another one.  I'll build another one to have as a backup when the blanks are on sale again.

I always point the rod at the line when I get snagged and am trying to pull my kayak over.  I get more line dig in that way, but it saves my rods.  Rods can take a lot of abuse, but if you're putting 20+lbs of force on it, it's going to eventually snap.  Especially in the cold weather.

Was a time not so long ago when I ridiculed people who break rods.  Not anymore.  I broke my 3rd just since early November this past weekend.  Bad stretch.

Your post reminded me of an incident that happened about 40 years ago back when graphite fishing rods were just starting to come on the market.  They were very expensive at the time.  Being somewhat crazy, I ordered one from a local tackle shop.  As I recall, it was a Fenwick and cost $350.  This was a small fortune in 1980's dollars for a fishing rod.  On the first trip out with my new graphite rod, my fishing buddy stepped on the rod and broke it in half.  We both stood there looking at each other without saying a word. I think we were in shock.  As it turned out, early graphite rods came with an unconditional warranty and they replaced it.  Since then, I have snapped more than a few in the truck door.  The biggest bass I ever caught broke my favorite flipping stick in half on the side of the boat.  I kept the pieces just for the memory...  ?

I broke a rod doing that a few years back trying to free a tube.  I didn't think I was even pulling that hard when I heard a crack.  It me a second before I could wrap my head around that I had just broken the rod in two.

They do come in streaks it seems. I haven't broke one in a few years, I just probably jinxed my self...

This is why I fish rods under $20. I don’t plan 95% of my fishing trips, just grab stuff and go every single opportunity I get, usually 3-5 times a week. Throw it in the truck for bank walking, canoe, kayak, or two different boats on trailers. I’ve always got a different cast of characters fishing with me from little kids or 3-4 other full grown men with several rods a piece, no way I’m taking anything expensive out there. Murphy’s law would certainly recognize that we brought something nice and shatter it or toss it overboard immediately

Unfortunately it is a small fortune for me in today's dollars.  :sad78:

I've broken one rod.  My fault.  Fell.

First break a couple of weeks ago. I'm so careful with the tips around the truck doors. But I didn't notice the handle in the way of the heavy door. Slammed it right on the rod. Looked fine, but based on a bunch of posts here I knew it was going to be sketchy. First cast with it the handle stayed in my left hand, and the reel and the rest of the rod stayed in my right, but they were no longer attached :(

I took the rod to show the shop.  He grinned at me and absent-mindedly filled out the paperwork and put it into a rod rack.  I went to look for a replacement.  Sold out!  We just started sharing pics and talking story when I interrupted with, “hey, what is gonna happen to my old rod?”  He said 1-2 months a new one will show up with my name in it. I now have to pay $75.   No biggie.

‘’in the meantime I bought a carbon copy elsewhere.  The price increased $10.  Oh well.  Fury 703.  I just like the thing. I don’t love the colorings but this isn’t a fashion show for me.  It really clashes with my reel.  I looks like wearing white shoes before Labor Day :)   It’s a great finesse jig rod for me.  Or weighted Texas rig tosser.
