I think he meant the truck pulling boat and the boat itself 100K which he is right,

@Shimano_1 has already replied, but like he said he "meant boats". We went to the Hot Springs, AR boat, rv and tackle show last year. The Bass Cat and Skeeter dealer both had rigs for $100+k!!! Nothing against either boat, they're great, but that is nuts. Salesman said it with a straight face. Our Chevrolet dealer had a new, decked out Silverado in the high $90's, a used one in the $70's! Like I've said before, I'm very much a "to each his own" type of person but a the older I get the more I realize that P. T. Barnum was right.

Not speaking for your situation but for most a wage increase is eaten up by inflation or increase in medical insurance so in essence it’s a wash.

Years ago we would get a COLA (cost of living adjustment) and an annual raise. Lately all we get is the COLA.

Well I wasn't 100% clear in my post part of my increase was promotion based. But yes I do understand the struggle don't think that I dont. This year my COLA raise is about even with inflation so I understand it being hard to get ahead. The sad reality is a hobby is supposed to use your disposable income...if companies end up pricing average Joes out of the hobby that sucks and it will ultimately end up hurting them in the long run.

I'm thankful for 2 things..1) that I have a decent job in a part of the country where its not impossibly expensive to eat, pay taxes, buy a home etc. 2)  for tackle sales and companies like big bite baits and Yum that offer good products for reasonable prices. Between those two companies you can buy bulk packs...25ct, 30ct or 100ct at great savings..on multiple worms, stickbaits, grubs, craws, creatures or chunk trailers.

With the cost of terminal tackle getting crazy as well I switched back from tungsten to lead for alot of applications and all of my tungsten I do buy comes from Siebert who has good prices. Nako looks like another great option as well. As for hooks I went away from gammy and owner unless on sale and have used VMC and Eagle claw in their place with no lose in hook ups. As for jigs I purchase some from Mike as I said before he has reasonable prices...and I buy BOSS heads alot and make my own skirts. Its tough but you take the savings where you can find them and live without the stuff you can't afford or justify.

Funny thing is since I started focusing on simplifying my gear and tackle and not needing the "best" of everything I still catch as many fish and have as much fun. Plus its better to hang a swim jig that cost $2.50 than one that cost $6...helps me sleep better at night.

Guess it depends on the industry. With the pandemic and now labor shortage in my neck of the woods the company I work for is throwing money at people trying to keep them. My wage has gone up $4.50 an hour in the past year plus we just had our biggest profit sharing check in plant history and next week they are giving us value share. My buddy who works in a completely unrelated industry just got a big bonus and said his 1 on 1 review / wage negotiations went very well.

I’m an electrician. There’s no such thing as a COLA raise. Employers have their costs go up, they aren’t crazy about handing out raises. And as inflation increases, construction slows down.

I could sit here and complain, but that’s never solved anything. I just mean that while I’m glad the pandemic has worked out well for you, that’s certainly not the case for everyone.

I understand that and I'm sympathetic to that situation. I also believe that it depends greatly on location. I've talked with a few home builders and contractors of various types and many have said last year was fantastic for them. I'm sorry for your struggle man that stinks...it just sounds like its very different here. Every company locally is looking for people..jobs that paid 16-18hr a year ago are now offering 19-22hr starting...extra PTO...2,3 even 5k signing bonus. Crazy how different it is.

I’m not looking for sympathy, it is what it is. Just keep working hard and maybe it’ll pay off one day haha

It is crazy the differences between states, but that’s getting into politics which I’m pretty sure is a no no around here.

Everyone should be checking out MidwayUSA. They constantly have 40-55% off of pretty decent stuff. It changes almost daily but it’s worth checking out.  They’ve been my main source of tackle since the pandemic started.

I have been finding great deals on older rods that are still amazingly light and sensitive that would compare with $300 rods today. Just found my second Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth 6'10 M-F rod for $70 Canadian. Way better value in my book.

Where??? I have been looking for that rod for years. It’s been like a holy grail for me. I guess I suck at looking but fleabay definitely doesn’t have it. My last one broke about 5 years ago. Best spinner I ever owned.

A bag of 12 gulp minnows costed 7$ at Walmart today. I should have stocked up earlier.

This is why I get the 2.5 inch, there’s 18 in that pack

Ok Rich, now that you let the cat out of the bag(Lol), I agree 100%.   I have spent waaaaaay too much there the past couple years. I am always checking and finding more I want.   I really like their business model and shipping is stupid fast.

I just got the new BPS catalogue in the other day.  I couldn't help but notice how many things had gone up 20% from a years ago.

But it's fishing stuff.  I can live with price increases there.  Skill trumps gear anyway, and skill is free.  It's price increases everywhere else that's killing me.

Did any of you see the "Producer Price Index", also known as the wholesale price index that came out this morning? It is up 9.7%! Not to worry though, the inflation is only "transitory".

I use the 1/4 oz eagle claw ball heads with the 3” gulp minnow for deeper water.

Our parents and grandparents all dealt with it , we will be alright. My parents and my boss’s first home was 11% interest, I pay under 4%. If you’re worried about the future, don’t ask cyclops2 for advice!

1/4 oz jig would certainly destroy the 2.5 inch when you threaded it on the hook

I’m thinking of retiring in a few months. Pretty sure my plans will not change. Regardless of economy or world state.

But the way things are looking sometimes I want to second guess myself. I will be retiring a bit early but you never know what will happen to you. Here today gone tomorrow.

My plan is to get caught up with some things at home. Go chase some early AM smallies around on the river on days I want to, head to the lake midweek for Mr. Greenjeans at leasure, and set around in the woods on mornings I want to a shoot squirrels for my friends who want them.

The minute I start changing my plans due to economics, world problems and unqualified persons in control of these situations I feel like I’d be making a huge mistake.

You're right, our entire nation dealt with a full blown depression, and several recessions. Hopefully it won't happen again.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but neither the Consumer Price Index or the Producer Price Index are politically driven. They're reports that the government release, sort of a report card on the economy and inflation. The quoted "transitory" is from noted economists that the government relies on. I guess that part could be considered politically motivated. If I offered, I'm sorry. I was just pointing out facts.

Even with the way things are currently, I wouldn't change a thing. I was in Law Enforcement for well over 30 years and by 2013 I was simply over it. Like mentioned, I'm fortunate to have a decent pension and once I hit 62 I started my social security. Everything we own was paid off years ago. Don't use any form of credit. If you can pull it off, retire and don't look back or second guess yourself.

Did you get your 2022 Master Catalog? I called BPS a couple of weeks ago and ordered a new Garmin. I asked about the new catalog and was told they would be shipped as soon as they are delivered by the printing company.

I think you were all good, I deleted that part of my post. I know next to nothing about economics

I generally have mine long before this time also.

The lady that I dealt with said that they (telephone order takers) were told that there have been delays in printing and shipping. On a brighter note, they are expecting them any day. Once delivered, they will be shipped to the consumer.

Edit, Got mine today.

Nice grab! I’ve been looking for both casting and spinner. Enjoy it!

Just bought a Falcon Head Turner so that’s probably it for my rod budget this season. Can’t wait to try this one out on the water.
