East TN anglers opinion on Dixie Custom A-Rigs

This might not be just an East TN question. I’m just not entirely sure how far the company reaches.

Never fished an A Rig in my life but Dixie Custom has some A-Rigs around $18 and I thought about trying one out. Curious if anyone on here has experience with them?

I also don't have any experience with them either

I've heard some good things about their custom rods though

Not exactly your question, but if it is your first a-rig I'd suggest a smaller 3.5-4' wire one, vs the 5"+ unless you have a rod to throw it on.

Yum's yumbrella isn't a bad starter rig, I had one and never broke it or had it fall apart, ended up losing it. Flash mob Jr if you are looking for the smaller one, and it casts fine on a H rod.

Tried another brand that was more expensive for a while, broke one in a bad way (in the swivel).

Had one g-funk, and asked around here and heard lots of good things about them from heavy users. So I have multiples of them now and they are really well made.

Ok right on. I was gonna go straight to the hog farmer but thought i might cry a bit if I lost a $30 bait haha

Yeah I would recommend the Yumbrella also, this will be my first year throwing one also.  I bought the Yum A rig because it is cheaper than most and people always recommend it.  I bought the 3 wire one since they only allow 3 hooks here in Ohio, it seems like really good quality for the price.

What is a decent swimbait head to throw on it? I’ll have to buy some centering pins for 2 of the wires since I’m only allowed 3 hooks.

Any recommendations on swimbait heads?

I just use round ball head jigs, I don't see the need in special swimbait jigs.  Just my opinion anyways

I'm still fiddling and looking for a favorite, but I don't think it actually matters that much. Ball heads will be ok, but it'll be a little more snaggy. I've heard of people using weighted swimbait hooks since they are much less snaggy, haven't tried that, and so far I prefer an open hook.

Best I can tell the bigs being caught on a-rigs at ivey were on a head like this. Less than a buck per head (6th sense).

Where I fish I got better results with a painted eye, in the same color of the local shad eye. (z-man swimbait eye)

Please note the a-rig isn't magic... if they aren't eating shad, you are throwing 3-5 spinnerbaits in their face. There's a time and a place for it; this year I tried to forcefeed it because I was learning... much better results in open water around shad than (as an example) on a weed edge and the shad are two structure changes away.

I picked up the Flash Mob Jr. and the only swimbait heads they even had there in the weight I wanted. Hard part was finding 5 similar looking swimbaits in different sizes.
