Not quite sure if this belongs here or in the "Bass Boats, Canoes, Kayaks and more" forum, but here goes.

I recently picked up a Garmin Striker Vivid 4cv to mount on my Old Town Topwater 120 (the standard paddle version). I plan on using Navarre's scupper mount to mount the transducer and then using a through hull wiring system and ram ball mount for the receiver. Only question is, do I put it on the left or right track? I'm right handed, all my reels are lefty and I generally side cast from the right, so does it make sense to mount it on the left so it's less in the way? Or I could put it on the right since I tend to land fish from the left (keeping my dominant hand on my rod and landing or using a net with my left). I have plenty of time to think it over as I won't be able to get it on the water for at least another month, but I just don't want to drill holes into my kayak and then end up thinking it'll go better on the opposite side.

I would appreciate some input!

I keep mine on the left side. I cast with my right hand and use RH bait caster.I haven't had any issues with it getting in the way.

I'm right handed so mounted mine on right so I toggled through the menus with my right hand.

Mount the fish finder for ease of use.

Mine is in the middle, but when mounting other accessories thinking I land more on the left or right is when I go out and find out land on both sides just as equal.Thats me anyways.. and I always forget that as I'm sure there are topics here where I say one side or the other lol

I'm right-handed so I mounted mine on the left.  No matter where you put it, it's going to be in the way from time to time.  On the left side, it's in the way when trying to roll cast to the left, across my bow.  On the right side, it's in the way when I'm trying to skip.  Mine mounts to a track, so I can move it back and forth.  But for whatever reason, I feel more comfortable with it on the left.

I’m right handed and push buttons with my right hand. I also stand to fish and the fish finder is practically touching my right leg facing forward so no issues with casting or reeling.

On the right. On one of the main lakes I fish I always start out counter clockwise so I am casting to my left. It does get in the way eventually.  I plan on adding a longer control arm in the future.

Typically the opposite side of the side you like to land fish on. If you install tracks on both sides and use some kind of track mount you can easily move it from side-to-side if needed.

I have a Vibe SeaGhost 110 now which has a center console. I keep the battery in the console and fishfinder mounted on a ram mount to the console lid. Works great. Way less issue than having it mounted on the side on my previous Ascend FS10. That being said, with a center console you lose your ability to stand. If I want to stand, I'll take the boat. :P

Right side.  I practiced sliding back in from the left side so I’m very interested in keeping my path free/clear.

My screen doesn't get in the way of my fishing so it could be on either side (6 inch screen Echomap). It is low, on the rail as close to the seat as I can get it.

I placed it thinking I would prefer to land my fish on the left side rather than the right, given the choice. It can possibly get in the way of landing, but it is so close to me it really shouldn't. My arms reach out farther than that, and the rod is around 7' long.

I may change one day, I haven't done this for very long so who knows. But like I said, it isn't in the way of my rod no matter what I'm doing (jerk, skip...).

Old Town PDL 106. Hard to see much in this photo, but it's barely higher than my seat. I may try mounting it beside me on the seat one day.

Try different locations. That's what I'm doing, which is why the wire is just stuffed in the pocket

FF in the middle but if I had to choose a side, it would be on the right, as I am usually trying to land left with the rod in my right hand.

Right side so I can see the screen when using the buttons. On my sportsman 120 I pulled out the rod holder to have access to install a mighty mount and the wilderness systems through hull wiring kit.20220212_205155_40.thumb.jpg.1e09e386a28ba3e89576d916435bbcd8.jpg20220212_213139_40.thumb.jpg.0449a9b1b08a5a36c9a9b56f3cfe464d.jpg
