Hey everyone,

Question, got a 2009 tracker pt 175 txw. Last time out, the speedometer failed to work at all. Now when I lived up north, we used to have issues this time of year with mud dobbers blocking up the end of the little thing that let it work. Problem is, I have no idea where that would be on this boat. i really do not want to take it into the shop during prime Bassin' so I was hoping someone might have an idea where I could look to see if it is something easy like that.

Is it in the water? I have issues with mine on ocassion. Sometimes the sensor flips up due to extremely choppy conditions. Not sure why it does that. It's just a matter of flipping it down so more of the sensor contacts the water.

If you need hull mounted pitot tube, let me know. I took mine off before I even used the boat because I knew it wouldn't last a minute in the stumps where I fish.

There is a good chance that it isn't on the boat but on the motor.  Check the lower unit to see if there is a small hole in the front of it.  If it is and is clogged take a small 1/8" or less drill bit and twist it (by hand only) into the hole and pull it out.  A couple of times like that and the hole will be cleared of debris.

That is exactly where it is. Thanks Jigman! I never would have thought that little hole was for the speedometer.

Some serious debris jammed in there.

If it works at all count yourself lucky. Half are junk, poor design, and your better off watching your GPS. At least it won't be off 10 MPH like 80% of the new ones straight from the factory.

Yeah I do not put a ton of faith in them. Just that it was not working at all on a new boat that got to me.

GPS!? What you talking talking about those fancy gizmos. We don't got none of dose things on da boat. I am in the process of saving up for a HD SI system so I am making do with the standard Lowrance system that came with the boat until then.

I got a new used boat last year, my speedo did not work either.  I have the same setup as you, but I did not get lucky that the hole in the engine was plugged, I replaced the vac tubing from the engine to the speedometer, now it works.  We tried to push 100 psi through the tube to blow out whatever was in there, but it did not budge.  I was like you, I knew the speedometer was not accurate, but I wanted it to work, now it does and now I can see how far off it is with the 898c si with gps.  Glad you fixed yours the simple way. :)

I'll echo what fishfordollars said. To me the speedo is the most worthless gauge on my cluster. It stopped workin somewhere around 1987. The tach's my baby.
