Reel for dedicated crankbait rod

Looking for a new reel for wide range of crankbaits, squarebills to dt 16ish. I was looking at a few such as Metanium dc, new Zillion sv, and was curious to see other suggestions. 500$ budget. Thanks guys.

Anything will work,  gear ratio is usually opinion based for cranks from everything I've read, I'd suggest you buy your favorite reel.

bantam mgl 6.2 or save some money and get the 150mgl 6.2

I don't think it makes sense to fish square bills and DT16s and other similar deep divers with the same reel (or rod).

Using an imx pro 845 cbr and it throws and fishes that range perfectly fine. Just want to upgrade my reel.

You can get a JDM Antares 70A for that amount.  Great reel.  Flawless except in cold weather.  It's like palming an ice cube.  I would highly recommend this one.

I would consider Shimano Tranx 300 series and  Daiwa Tatula 300 series in 6.3:1 In low profile reels. Your goal is a strong reliable, quite reel with enough line capacity to make 50+ yard cast and maintain reasonable IPT. 

I preferred round reels balance is essential, both rod tip and side weight to cast several hours using crank baits. The low profile reel lower the CG and side weight.

I like a 7 GR for square bills because they don't give much resistance running 4-6 ft. If I was going to fish a deep crank it would be with a 5 GR.

I don't have any experience with reels in that price range, but my thought process says that SV spools from Daiwa and MGL spools from Shimano will handle light squarebills and deeper divers equally well.  Both spools are more than capable of rocking more than enough line to make long casts, so my vote goes to...

 

The Daiwa Steez SV TW in 6.3:1.

 

I don't know Shimano reels enough to suggest any of those, but my second vote goes to the Okuma Hakai in a 6 gear ratio as well.  That 170 dollar baby will be my next reel.

Steez sv looks tempting if I can find a deal lol. I have a couple months to search before the ice is gone in Minnesota/Wisconsin though. Thanks for the suggestion

I know this will not mean much to you and many on here but back a couple of years ago I took a chance of basically buying something (rod & reel) for the most part untouched and not knowing what the combo was gonna feel like. I generally won’t do that. I was itching for a new crankbait combo was gonna dedicate it to throwing nothing but Strike King on it and all the BS that goes along with it. 
 

I took the chance and bought the Abu Garcia REVO Winch, under 5:1 ratio. I love the thing. Have two now. I matched these up with Abu Garcia Veritas Winch casting rods. Moderate actions. Could not be happier. At TW sale this was not a bank breaking purchase. Bought one setup at the end of each year. I have other setups that have yielded plenty of fish. The Abu setup are great, have a bit different of a feel. Nothing for the worse. Good choice on my part.

I’m a Steez fanboy and have multiple but for deep cranks, I opt for a Lew’s BB1 Pro over the Steez.  I think it is a tough reel to beat for deep cranking at most any price.

Think I made this misleading, primary users are speed cranking tighter action baits like tactical dd for example, squarebills and at most dt 14(dt 12 far more) and I said dt16 which really I rarely use.

I love my Daiwas, but for moving baits where distance is needed...I go with a centrifugal braking system.  Concept Z's are  what I'm running.

Also considered a steez A but seems its windy more than it’s not so I was thinking the sv would be nice on lighter stuff.
