I'm interested in the Oneten and I'm considering importing it from JDM Tackle Heaven.

Any thoughts on this particular rod or the line in general?

Also, anyone have any experience with JDM tackle Heaven?

Thanks!

Since no one else has yet replied, I have the Slend. It's a good rod. It's no more sensitive than my Daiwa Ardito ML. It's the same blank Phenix uses as well, so with that in mind, I might find something in the Phenix lineup that will come with a warranty.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't realize the warranty wouldn't apply  if I purchased from outside of NA. That is important.

Do you have any suggestions on who makes a medium casting rod under 6'6 these days? ~$250

If you want to order the same rod with a warranty

https://thehookuptackle.com/products/orochi-xxx-baitcasting-rods

Or

https://tackletrap.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1066_2409_2410

I've done business with both. 100% positive experience.

Thanks, definitely sold out of the XXX Oneten.

Now I'm considering the Destroyer Carbon Head Eliminator, or Cyclone.... Someone talk me out of this please!

Why do I want a MB rod so bad?

So you can say "Its not just a rod...it's a work of art" even on simple builds like the p5.  You will also become better than most others, and women will swoon ??

yes. i think this is correct, the 'work of art' part. I'm totally sucked in to their marketing and the vibe. What other manufacturers should I look at? Who can break the spell?!?

It just gets worse from there. Once you learn to master/tolerate computer translated Japanese you can really start diving deep into tackle madness. I have a couple of Megabass rods while I like them amd I will continue to buy them, they’re not the end-all be-all of fancy fishing tackle.

I have one of the XXX rods, the Black Themis.  I like them a lot to the power/tape or a pretty much spot on to the ratings.

Thanks, that is helpful.

Did you import your XXX or buy it from a retailer in the US?

I'm not so much interested in deep diving into the madness of JDM tackle goodness but I do want to buy a rod that I will really enjoy.

Locally the top end of what I can buy is BPS and St. Croix Premiere and neither have what I'm looking for.

I purchased 2 rods in 2020, a Levante Whipsnake and a 7' Zodias MH. The Zodias is crazy light but the construction was sloppy and it was much heavier than I imagined it to be, basically feels like a HXF in hand. The Whipsnake is perfect though, attention to detail is perfect and the action/power is spot on to its rating. Thus I'm partial to MB at this point.

It sounds like I can still use the MB warranty so long as I pay to ship it back and forth to Japan if I ever need to replace or repair the rod. Expensive.

So I guess it is either take a chance importing the XXX Oneten or I bite the bullet and pay for the Destroyer Eliminator or Cyclone, both of which are more than I want to spend.

I love you. Give me more!

I've never spent more than $300 CAD on a rod so a Destroyer seems insane to me tbh. I'm open to being convinced though. ?

Have not done any business with them. My suggestion for any company

you are not familiar with is to pay with PayPal for added protection.

They do accept paypal. I don't know much about paypal, I will look into said protections, thanks!

The company has all the social media you'd expect (going back to 2015 or so) and has reviews. I've been chatting with someone there. It does seem legit. They take all major credit cards so I'd be covered there as well.

I’ve heard of but not ordered from them.

Id stick to us retailers for the warranty. I crushed the tip of my perfect pitch in my truck door and they replaced it at no cost.

Yes, that is a fair point. If I were to accidentally crush the tip it would cost me $170CAD to ship it back to japan for a replacement. That would almost equal the cost of the Destroyer rod.... but man, I cannot stomach paying that much for a fishing rod. I bet I'd love it tho!

You can’t even send it back. If you purchase it outside of their dealer network it has zero warranty. I mean none. They will not even let you get a discount on a replacement if purchases used or from an unauthorized dealer. I know from experience.

Yeah, if the stateside dealers don't have what you're looking for in stock, wait. The warranty is worth it.

This is what I was told by the dealer "You can use a warranty but it's valid only in Japan. So, if you send the item back to us, we will go ahead with the repair process instead of you. In case that, the shipping charge for a round trip and the deductible must be paid by you."

What was your experience?

Thanks!

Bought a used stick, busted it and tried to see if I could get anything in terms of a discount on a new rod.

From them it was never going to happen.

I wouldn’t buy from Japan unless you’re totally fine with losing the money. I guess that counts with all fishing stuff.

I got mine from the Tackle Trap but I have got a few rods from Japan and I have never had an issue.
