So that last few times ive bought mono likes (particularly berkley sensation and xt as well as p-lone flueroclear and cxx) it seems like the line has a rediculous amount of memory right out of the box. I mean roll of the baitcaster spool memory. It also hasnt seemed to have the knot strength either. Its been multiple spools now. An

Nothing recent, but it does happen. It could be a manufacturing thing, but more likely it's been on the shelf too long or improperly stored.

Other than Berkley Sensation the other lines you mentioned are also on the thicker side. Thicker line and colder weather usually results in more memory.

Last times being how recent? I haven't purchased line in a while but am curious as to timeframe

Several times over last 2 years. Its been multiple spools. I used to love sensation for both leaders and straight. Ive bought a couple spools of 12 lb and one of 8 and they are all so bad they roll off the spool. I gave up on it as a leader because know strength was weak too.

I keep seeing these "bad batch" posts about line.  I have never had a "bad batch."  I really don't think there are very many "bad batches."  I think there are variables in the use of the products that are being called "bad batch."

Different lines have different characteristics.  Like "Vanish."  It makes your lure vanish.  But bad batch?  Unless it's changed recently, it's not a bad batch.  It's just Vanish.

Every FC I've tried so far (not all, admittedly), unsuitable.  Bad batch?  No, it's just FC.  It has no significant advantage over mono.  And it has many disadvantages.  But it has a lot of "believers."

Ain't it great to have so many options!

I have specific applications for Sunline Armilo (Monofilament), Yo-Zuri Hybrid (Copolymer)

and Tatsu (Fluorocarbon), I have a strong preference for the fluoro, but I still use other lines.

My thing is ive been using sensation and xt for years. I really like sensation. But last few spools ive bought are pretty much unusable. Ive talked to two of my buddys that catfish alot and go through a decent amount of mono and they are saying the same thing. Its odd to me that the three of us are experiencing the same thing and its all since covid hit. Makes me wonder if manufacturers are doing something diff

I heard a saltwater guy one time say you could heat it up somehow and it goes limp. I just get stuck on the bottom of the river on a long cast and pull the coils out of it

That’s why I stay with one type of line.  I have had spools of line that was either old or UV contaminated.  I occasionally spool fluro on a baitcaster but as long as I can still catch fish like this on a Ned rig and 6lb test mono, I see no need to change.?

Sensation has a decent amount of memory.  I use it frequently, but the memory is worse than say XL.

Everything Suffix does seems to be fine quality.

Braid and Mono I'm a Sufix guy - though I use Elite instead of Siege...still a great line.

I primarily fish mono. Have used plenty of XT, XL, and Stren. No major complaints. But I’ve been fishing alot of SunLine mono the last few years. I love it. I have no complaints with the big game. I strip my line back and change it out premature, habit I got into.

Sunline super natural has been great for me so far. Discovered it in the 2nd half of last season. 4lb stuff got me out of some snags where 6lb stren magnathin snapped...and the sunline is the same or lower diameter per lb test. Good line!

Try this: with the line on the reel & nothing attach to the end of the line Put the line in the water & idle along until the line is all the way out . then wind it in while still at idle speed. When it's in check to see if that helped.

I use the heck out of the 6# and 8# Super Natural. Just wish I could buy it in bigger spools and cheaper savings.

I've been really dissapointed in Berkleys line products, I just use zrbco omniflex at this point, it has a thicker diameter but for 2 bucks for 700 yards it's really good and knots nicely, Berkley mono has also had odd weak spots throughout the line. If it's just a memory thing I soak them in water and it removes all memory for spinning, on casting I stretch it out and tie it to a tree if I have not used it in a few months.

I've been playing with Sufix Advance mono the last year and really like it. It does have some memory, any line does, but it's been very strong and has a tolerable amount of memory.

yes, i have been seeing weekspots as well. I expect some memory, thats the point of mono. But this is egregious. I am sorely disapointed that it seems like berkley has gone down hill. It is readily available and also worked well. I used to love 12lb sensation on my baitcasters, i wrangled in a good amount of northern with it without getting bit off. Now it is seemingly unusable.

I have used several over the years and make it a hobby to try out a new line each year.  Short version, almost all lines are good under certain conditions but I have my favorites and few I don't care for.

My personal favorite is Sunline Defier. Great line, last longer than most but pricey. Sunline Supernatural is good but comparable to other lines. I also like XL, XT, CXX, Big Game, Siege, Elite and an Amazon brand called Runcl. I have had mixed results with Sufix Advance, Pline and Stren.  Berkley Sensation was bad for me though.

I am definitely at the point of finding a new mono for leaders and/or spooling. Im going to have to do someresearch. Obviously memory is inherant to mono, but i value something with enough sensitivity for jigs and enough stretch for cranks would be ideal as most of my fishing these days involves traveling light and wading rivers. And lower diameter to poundage. I typically like 2 spools. One in 8lb for spinning and one in 12lb for baitcasting. I understand im asking alot but thats what i need for my style.
