One brand's fast is another brand's extra fast.

All other things being the same, either will do....my 'concern', about XF, if any, would not be about hookset, or 'bait control'....but how well it delivers the weights you will use.

I prefer fast or even mod fast, but I fish a jig on straight braid. No right or wrong answer, just a matter of personal preference and what works best for YOU.

Lets create more terms & buy more different named rods.  It is the American business way.

Next month will see the introduction of the Warp Speed and Speed of Light tip actions.     Enjoy.

Can you taste colors?

Original question, I like X-fast, unless you're using something in very heavy cover, then I like a mod-fast.  I want that XH power spread out across the whole blank when fishing like that.

I wouldn't buy or use half the technology in the bicycles I sell, but no one is putting a gun to any consumer's head. Stuff folks don't buy doesn't get made or offered for long. I blame (or is it thank) the buyers...

When will reels get BlueTooth shifting?

LOL, back in the late 80s, early 90s, one slow winter day at the bike shop, we were acting a fool, and kept upping each other, and goofing on the then "new technology", eventually we came up with STS, Shimano Think Shift. I think the Covid nano chips makes that and the equivalent STR, Shimano Think Reel finally a reality.... :)

I realize this is not a reply to the question but seeing the bottom photo made me realize I need a movie marathon day. Young Frankenstein, History of the world part 1 & Blazing Saddles. The perfect trilogy to escape the insanity of the world in my opinion  ?

I have a H-F Falcon Bucoo 6'10" pitching stick. It's a $100 rod. I love it. It has plenty of backbone to yank a big fish out of a laydown. I use it with the drag all but locked down. But it also has a little tip to help with the skip and placement. The only rod I like better is a LowRider, but it's an old Trap Caster. I actually used it for my first jig rod. Then I decided I needed a more jig-specific outfit.

My question would be do you fish heavy cover with your jigs or do you fish a jungle? Like, do you punch mats? If I was going to punch mats, I'd use my XH-XF frog rod. It's a discontinued rod from Cabela's Tournament ZX line. I do use it as a spare T rigs rod in the colder months.

Can't add much that hasn't been said, I use extra fast for jigs and T-rigs. Don't get a ton of distance on the lighter end since the rod won't load up as deep but I'm usually making shorter casts to specific targets anyway so it's never bothered me. Can still bomb the heavier jigs out there if I need to.

If I don't like a Worm or Jig rod for whatever reason it's going back.

Yeah I do ?

Now if ya wanna talk grass mats that's a different rod. Actually two different rods, the one I use the most is a Lew's TP1B74H 7'4" Heavy Fast 3/16-1 1/2 oz.

I use a Megabass Levante Brailist 7'4MH/MF and it is known for being "parabolic" for a jig rod. It works really well for me, I don't like fighting a fish with an overly fast rod personally. Really comes down to personal preference, but if you want to play it safe I would go fast. I feel like you wouldn't be missing out on much by not having extra fast.

Imagine if fishing line was classified the same way rods are.   You can choose between light, moderate,  strong, and extra strong.  What line is best for jig fishing?  Some prefer strong line,  others prefer extra strong line.   One company's strong line is 12 lb test.  Another companies strong line is 16 lb test.   It would be confusing.  :stupid:

Best analogy I’ve heard. I find lure ratings more indicative of a rod’s strength but even at that…some brands like to overestimate what their rods can do while others underestimate. And even my conclusion that they are under/overestimating is subjective. So it comes to down personal preference.
