I just recently boat a new 2010 tracker topper 14' jon boat and im trying to figure out what would be the best way to put the pedestal seats on the bench seat? has anyone put seats in their jon boat before?

Weld or screw 2 or 3 base plates to the seat :)

i was thinking that but i see people putting wood down and stuff like that if i just screw directly to the bench seat whats underneath the bench seat to hold it or is it just metal with foam? im not sure

On the topper the bench is probably a thin shell of aluminum with styrofoam in the middle for floatation. I personally wouldn't feel safe just screwing a mount in there and having a large pedestal.

I would try to get access to the underside and having removed enough of the foam to get to it, put a piece of plate aluminum or wood underneath and use stainless steel nut and bolt combos with good sized washers for the base.

The bench seat thickness on the Alwelds pictured above is  .100" 5052 marine aluminum, base plates have 6 mounting holes (instead of 4), the screws were 3/8" which is more than enough to hold anyone but I tack welded 4 corners any way.

Unless your boat is very wide, a pedestal in a jon boat makes for a very unstable seat. Been there, done that. It changes the center of gravity severely.

I ended up taking mine out after one trip. Now it has the cushioned seats with cushioned backrests mounted on swivels. I would love to have a pedestal, just can't do it in my boat.

My 14' jon is almost exactly the same as the tracker topper 14'. I just used the clamp-on mounts from Wal-Mart, I don't remember if the came with a swivel or if I added that. they work just fine. Once the seat is clamped to the bench its a little difficult to get to the nuts that secure the thing but you are able to adjust the seat side to side and a few inches front to back, that can be helpful in a smaller boat to get it to ride level.
