Super User Bird Posted February 3, 2022 Super User Posted February 3, 2022 As an avid football fan this case is puzzling. Coach Flores had a bright future as a head coach but from my understanding he did not respect authority and was constantly butting heads with GM Chris Grier which lead to his termination. It all started when he was asked to tank for a franchise QB like a Joe Burrow. He refused to comply. Even with his fine coaching resume, he was overlooked from the many HC positions, possibly do to his negative dealings with front office. Wonder what kind of Hornets nest this is gonna stir up ? Oh, and then throwing Belichick under the bus, wow. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted February 3, 2022 Super User Posted February 3, 2022 The Rooney Rule was DESIGNED to allow appearance of fairness. And to make it easy to appear fair....and NFL dumazzes couldn't even fake it. Don't know where this goes, but I'm ok with some flames and rolling heads. Flores was always just a placeholder. He knew that....and probably would have been ok with it if he thought he got a fair look after 1 Quote
Fishingmickey Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 The news report I heard said something about the wrong Brian being texted by Bo Shembeckler congratulating him on getting the Giants head coaching job. Brian Flores was scheduled to interview for that position and got the text. Brian Daboll got the job. Sounds like a "insider" Bo screw up. FM Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted February 3, 2022 Global Moderator Posted February 3, 2022 The way I understood it, he is trying to bring systemic racism in NFL ownership and management ranks to light the fact that the Rooney rule even exists in the NFL speaks that there’s some smoke there 1 Quote
Captain Phil Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 As a long time Dolphins fan I liked Flores, but he was just one in a long line of coaches that couldn't measure up to Shula. I don't think Miami fans will be happy until they raise him from the dead. We had decent players a few years ago that could have done something, but Adam Gase traded them all off. After that, he went to the Jets and stunk them up too. The list of NFL greats than "used" to be Dolphins is a long one. I'm beginning to think the problem is with the owner Stephen Ross? By the way, the Dolphins General manager is black. So much for the race card. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 3, 2022 Super User Posted February 3, 2022 I don't think that's a get out of jail card. This is gonna get smelly. 1 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted February 4, 2022 Super User Posted February 4, 2022 The fact that Flores filed a class action suit allows other coaches to report their complaints which will help strengthen Flores allegations. Of course the NFL has denied any substance to the claims as have the other teams interviewed. Flores had to know that he would never coach again in the NFL with the suit action but decided it was worth the risk. 2 Quote

I think the fact that it’s being discussed as to how the Rooney Rule or what drives the Rooney Rule could be better. In the case of coach Flores’ complaint, he’s saying it could be better and the processes create positive result for the league." - Jerry Jones Quote

With Stephen A's mouth spouting off about not enough black coaches for a while now. Then this happens, and now Hue Jackson coming out. Same thing happened with Gruden... Quote

Super User Jigfishn10 Posted February 6, 2022 Super User Posted February 6, 2022 Or you keep your mouth shut, try and win every game knowing you're gone and have a better chance at another coaching gig that could be worth 10X the amount of losses. Just a different perspective. Quote
Captain Phil Posted February 7, 2022 Posted February 7, 2022 The Dolphins are a mess. No coach is going to want to deal with all the legal issues they are facing. It seems to me the answer is for Ross to sell the team to Brady and some other investors. Brady is building a big home in Miami and it will give him something to do in retirement. Miami would go nuts for this and he could be the GCOAT "Greatest Coach of All Time". Quote

I often hear fan bases say "lose this game" or "lose more games" at the end of the season when their team is going nowhere so they can get a higher draft pick. I makes me want to puke. You don't purposefully try to lose a game, ever. Otherwise get the hell out of playing sports in general, never mind a professional football league like the NFL. I can remember years ago when the division came down to the final game with the Vikings and Packers. The winner would host Seattle in a home playoff game and the loser would go on the road to play Washington. Of course half the people I knew were saying to "lose this game" to get a better playoff matchup. Complete nonsense. You win the division and get a home playoff game. Who cares is you have a tougher opponent on paper. 1 Quote

I agree with you and @gimruis. But I can understand that an owner might strongly disagree. If an owner said his goal was "to win a Superbowl within 4 years, and our best chance of doing that is by going 2-15 this year....instead of 4-13".....well, I may not approve, but I don't think it'd be irrational. 1 Quote
