Improve your luck by selecting more productive water. For me that is fishing the
Tennessee River below the dam rather than Pickwick itself. I fish the lake a lot, but

consider myself a river rat.

I already look up to you from a fishing perspective after reading your post on fishing a t-rig Senko in the Best of Bass Resource tab, but let me ask you this.

Why do you prefer moving water? Oddly enough, that's where I struggle most.

And in regards to finding more productive water, what if you're fishing in a tournament? Would it just be finding the most productive water in that fishery?

Thank you sir, I hope you don't mind me trying to glean some more knowledge from you.

I have found that LONE   SMB  are very similar to a LONE trout in a river.  Take up a position that hides them. But allows a easy successful  attack after a food goes by.

Moving water oxygenates the river and stirs up all the nutrients in the basin. Baitfish

are quicker moving downstream giving the predators little time to make their decision

to strike or not.  Current and structure are the dominate variables, not cover.

If you are new to a lake, fish the boat ramps and the dam. Public areas that host

tournament weigh-ins is a lay-up! Otherwise, I target points, especially primary points

on the main lake. If there is a gravel bar extending out from the point, so much the

better.  Docks can be hit and miss, but seem to be more productive in the summer.

Creek mouths are another favorite.

Agree roadwarrior.  Any above water that casts a shadow is my first choice. Only takes a day or 2 to replace.  If I keep 1 to eat.  It just works that way in my area.

I can catch them on bare jig heads & a spinner blades during bad weather.  Low light & no flying fish eaters.

Lets fill up guys.  CHOMP  CHOMP is now in effect.

LOL.  Ok, in that case, if I ever went kayak fishing, I'd absolutely leave the dolly in the truck... :)

For someone to steal?

They would take the truck too at Jersey & Pa. ramps in the past decades.

I was about to disagree, then I noticed that you are from a state that thinks filling a Pyrex dish with whatever, pouring a can of soup on it and baking it to death is a thing...

For a minute I thought you were talking Minnesota.

BTW: Fish are great eating...if you get them at the proper time of the year, and the proper size (based on species)

(firm believer in selective harvest.)

Fargo, Green Bay, St Paul, Grand Rapids, is there a difference?.... :)

Lot of fishing research has led me to believe that in dirty water, the green colored crawdads can just safely swim around because the bass are eating the blue hued ones. In clearer water it's reversed and the darker color crawdads are safe

Hmmm...a personal or unreasoned judgement or prejudice.

When this post started my initial thoughts were the thread will be shut down.

I don’t harbor any unreasoned judgements, do have lots of reasoned judgements.

Definite preference for bait casting tackle over spinning.

Prefer using line under .012D for general bass fishing.

Don’t like seeing a half dozen guides using live bait 24/7 on the small lakes under 2,000 acres locally.

Prefer using jigs then any other lure, hard to put down.

Don’t like yellow lures, chartreuse is Good.

Cormorants should be shot.

The thread can keep going as long as nobody says something like “cormorants should be shot” which is illegal

I prefer blondes over brunettes.  On some subconscious level, I think it is why I use a leader with my braid.  I like the qualities of the braid at the root, but want the salon coloring for show.  Plus, FG knots are sexy.

That’s a fair definition…maybe I could have used a less vague term.  I was thinking more along the lines of:

  1. Bias - A preference or an inclination, especially one that inhibits impartial judgment.

My thought was since there are so many unknowns in fishing, we often have to make judgements based on preferences or inclinations, often without quantifiable proof.  I gave the example of color where by bias (inclination) that it matters to a degree but I can’t prove it and it’s inconsistent with many studies.  My bias is not unreasoned but based on experience.  However, I also acknowledge there could be a degree of confirmation bias involved.

I had faith that we could have an adult conversation.  That’s why I intentionally pointed out the inconsistencies with my positions.

You're in my neck of the woods, who's your goto for pizza? Thin, deep dish, or stuffed?

i’m not a Chicagoland native nor do I consider myself a pizza aficionado so take this with a grain of salt, I’m not real big on deep dish but I do like malnatis with sausage, nancy’s is real good, I get rosatis often just because they’re so close, kinda hit or miss with them. You?

My bias is simple:

Fishing is the outdoor equivalent of playing poker. Sure, some have a legitimate amount of talent and can do well wherever they are, but for the majority of us, we can do our best to increase our odds, but in the end we're still relying quite a bit on luck.

And you ca figure on being shot if you get caught cheating.

There's a small pizza joint in Edison Park called Pizzaboy that has fantastic thin crust and deep dish. I prefer Giordanos for stuffed. Lou's is good, but there are better.

Braid is frustrating, digs into spool, does not knot as well as nylon type lines, has scared fish in clear water for me, has no stretch, is expensive, leader knots are ugh and time consuming expecially on a cold morning, and only use it when frogging or using super thick wire hooks, because mono/floro doesnt really set heavy wire hooks amazingly.
