LakeWinni Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 Rods stay in that hard bent position when using with a downrigger, can/should I use any rod with a downrigger? What is the ideal action/power, basically what makes downrigger rods special and is it really that much better? What rods might you recommend for stripers (think 8-25lb)? Don't mind coughing up for a nice one. I have an 8 foot mod fast casting rod, any good? Quote

Reel Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 The Talora series from Shimano has some really nice rods for downriggers. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted February 1, 2022 Super User Posted February 1, 2022 Composite or glass rod with a moderate or slow action, and appropriate power for whatever is likely to release the clip (or break the rubber band). That could be an Ugly Stik, or a custom job, and anything in between. Quote
