I was spooling a 309 for pier fishing(freshwater and saltwater), With soft steel braid and I remember I didn't share that it giving a lots of color to everywhere when you spooling, I bought this braid in 30lb and 80lb for my  catfishing and saltwater conventional reels because it is very cheap. About the braid I need to say it is very good quality and have no problem of using it in last three years, Just the color in your hand and your furniture while spooling is pain in the neck. I have the marks on my comforter from last year :)

Yeah, some braids do that, I use a glove and do it in the garage most of the time. I'm personally not a fan of a level wind on my salt water reels, but the 309 is a work horse for sure.  I still have some of my old Penn reels from the 60s and 70s going strong. Gotta love a reel that you can overhaul in 10 minutes.

It does bleed but very nice line.
