Super User J Francho Posted February 4, 2022 Super User Posted February 4, 2022 Those reels were not that good at all. Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 4, 2022 Super User Posted February 4, 2022 The original model wasn’t worth the $$$ the SX model with Smooth drags and bearing roller bail is a decent for $50. The oversized shallower spool/bail was a good concept that should be available today FC spinning users. Tom Quote
Cranks4fun Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 I was just re-evaluating trying straight fluoro again just to have a rod dedicated to Suspended jerkbaits. After reading all of this, I'll stick with braid to fluoro leaders. I would personally never buy Tatsu (at present prices) and it hurts my stomach to think about paying the latest prices for Sunline or Invizx ($23+) for leader lines though I will probably do it with lingering regrets. Too many unexpected and often unavoidable frays and break-offs can happen when fishing straight fluoro around cover to justify spooling a reel with $55 line, for me that is... If you have the money and the desire to do it, do it and enjoy it. But for me, its braid to leaders I guess until some unforseen competitor creates a new more-manageable fluoro at a more reasonable price. Quote

InvizX isn't THAT far below Tatsu. I run 8# on a President XT-30 and 6# on an Avocet RZT-1000. Very manageable and not too expensive. I buy mine at Fleet Farm for $19.99 a spool. Quote

It is still less than half the price of Tatsu but still I am hesitant to spend that much on fluoro when I can still get Power-Pro braid at $13 a pop and it lasts 2-3 years. Everyone has to set their own limits I guess. I'll probably find InvizX on a clearance rack or on sale online and stock up again sometimebut for now, it is just leader line along with my Seaguar Red Label stuff. Quote

I’m not trying to change your mind but I’ll give you a counter argument for how I justify the price as leader line. Personally, I use hi-vis braid to leader (Tatsu) on all my spinning reels (I don’t like straight fluoro on spinners). Using 10ft leaders would get you 60 leader changes from a 200yd spool (~.50 cents/leader). Even though InvizX is ~.10-.15 cents/leader cheaper, Tatsu is a more durable line (IMO), so net/net there is probably not much difference in the cost when considering durability. And being able to replace the last 10’ with fresh line 60 times for me is a big deal. Quote
Cranks4fun Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 RDB, you might be right, especially if using Tatsu for leaders only. I have to honestly say I have never used it. It may be a huge jump in quality for fluoro line as far as flexibility and durability go when compared to InvizX. I just do not feel I (me personally) need to spend that kind of money on fluoro line yet... this year's rising inflation may cause me to retract that statement. On the other hand, if you are getting it for $30 a spool, you are getting far closer to what I consider reasonable than the $55 a spoo I usually see. My main issue is trying to stay married while continuing to suplement my hunting, fishing, and guitar-playing habits. She does not understand why a single Zebco 33 or a Scooby Do rod and reel would not be enough. It sooo hard! 1 Quote

Tatsu (or any fluoro) is no magic bullet. At the end of the day, most suggestions you get relate to what others have confidence in. Confidence leads to greater attention. Greater attention leads to greater success. Greater success breeds greater confidence. Fishing is just a circular exercise. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 5, 2022 Super User Posted February 5, 2022 InvizX is a great alternative, strong and VERY manageable. 1 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted February 6, 2022 Super User Posted February 6, 2022 I was looking at the new Seaguar Basix 101 line in Walmart today. Fluorocarbon line for $9.84 they had 6# and 8# I was thinking of buying for a spinning reel. In the end I chickened out and bought a spool of 10# for my baitcaster. Quote
