The 3700 spinnerbait box is a bit thinner but the plastics box is thicker. If the 3701 is the same as the spinnerbait box then another box is interesting. 3700 - 2" thick 3707 Spinnerbait - 1-7/8" thick 3701 - 1-3/8" thick Quite a bit thinner. The compartments I built in the F-9 will hold eight 3701 boxes but only six 3700s. Quote
5/0 Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 (edited) Yep. What MN Fisher said. Length and width the same. Black handles the 3700, yellow the 3701. Edited July 31, 2022 by 5/0 Correction Quote

Horizontal rod holders from mariner sails. I’ve written about them in the autopilot Facebook group a good bit. Overall I like them a lot and would never change to vertical rods. I need to make a modification eventually to put the Navarre handle on and move my mounts back a bit so it doesn’t interfere with the rudder deploy. I carry four or five rods. If five, one is in my hand and four down. If I want six, then I add a yak attack holder tilted down behind the seat. I stand the whole time to fish so vertical rods are a pain. i also don’t run a crate. Rods go in the holder in the picture above. I carry a Plano guide series tackle bag that holds 5x 3700, a 3600, and a bunch of soft plastics bags in the sides. I’ll swap out a 3700 depending on where I’m going. To do it again I would get the big one one yet and just not swap stuff around. Good looking set up. My primary purchasing decision when buying my Pro Angler 14 was the horizontal rod holders. I had a few other yaks before that and was not responsible enough with vertical rods - I was always getting caught in trees, smacking low bridges, trying to fly fish etc. Also got into rod building so the rods were getting nicer and numerous. I love having them down out of the way in front of me. Easy to get to, tips protected, stay in place if (when) I flip. To the point of the thread, I don't need rod holders so my current crate is a chopped down farm crate that goes under my seat and slides out. Fits up to 10 3600s, though I've never brought more than 6. Also, have this tool box laying around and it happens to fit 8 3600s nicely. I wouldn't bring it on the kayak because I like easy access but might be helpful for packing for trips. Quote
Super User Bankc Posted August 8, 2022 Super User Posted August 8, 2022 No crate. Just have a 1x4 running across the kayak behind me with 6 PVC rod holders. I keep my tackle in a tackle bag with 3600 trays. I like this better, and it's easier for me to grab the whole tackle bag and pull it up front with me, or just grab one or two trays at a time and store them under my seat if I'm going to be dipping into them regularly. Unlike a crate, the bag has straps, so I can easily grab it with one hand. Plus, my rod holders are much more secure, since they're attached directly to my kayak, and not to a crate. Plus I often do some bank fishing, and it's easier if I just have the one bag already loaded all of the time, so I don't have to swap things in and out of a crate. 1 Quote

If I can remember, I'll take a photo next time I'm out. I've been meaning to take some photos of it fully rigged since I've done a bit of work to it. But here's one of it on my SUV, and you can kind of see it from behind. 1 Quote

Super User Deleted account Posted October 11, 2022 Super User Posted October 11, 2022 Were I ever to fish from a pointy wading pool, I'd use whatever milk crate they leave out overnight in front of the bodega... 1 Quote

Rockytop Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 My wife bought me a black pack a few years ago for my birthday. It's alright but I don't see paying that much for a box with three rod holders. My old milk crate did the same thing without that aggravating bungee strap lid. I'm going to let the black pack go with my kayak if anybody ever buys it. Quote
Jamo Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 I used to run a similar setup to the pictures above. Ran PVC up from my two rod holders in the back. 90 degree elbows pointed inward to 4x four way connectors so the butts of the rods could pass through. On one side I also ran a 3 way connector to another 90 degree joint pointed into the water where I ran the cable and hose clamp for my transducer. (Back before the thru hull and scupper transducers were any good). And now that I've re read all of that it doesn't make any sense so here's a picture. If you zoom in on the far side you can see the outlet for the transducer cable. Never cared for a crate because it would get in the way of my rod holder magoozer. Speed box for what I thought was going to work up front, scale and pliers in the hatch, back up lures in a backpack behind me. Everything else was at home. YMMV. My trips typically only went for a max of 4 hours before the Georgia heat would send me home Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted November 5, 2022 Super User Posted November 5, 2022 Anyone used these angled crates from yak gadget? Curious how many 3700 boxes the size large or small actually hold? Looks like easy access when you turn around to grab things. https://yakgadget.com/collections/storage-accesories/products/lowpro-crate-xd Quote
