I keep them somewhat organized but a spread sheet would take away from my fun fishing.

Tournament baits are different. They get filed to a different Plano box and are ranked by effectiveness from left to right.  I usually buy at least two of my favorites but keep them separated until one is done or lost.

I am with MN Fisher on this is a winter project when even the rivers are froze up. Definetly not a summer project unless I could fit it into break or lunch at work.

I honestly don't have enough crank baits (or tackle, period) to do a spreadsheet.  If I was going to keep track of all my tackle I would label it.  I don't generally have tackle that I don't use regularly.

I could see how it would be helpful to keep track of all this if you had a crap load of stuff.

I do keep track of how many times I go fishing each season and where I went.  One season I tracked all of the fish that my family caught and each species (Mother, Father, Brother, and myself).  That was a lot of work and communication so now I just keep track of my own trips each season.

2020 - 35 fishing trips

2021 - 32 fishing trips

I wish I didn't have so much stuff, but 20+ years of that darn monkey means I have a stash. Crankbaits in particular add up because generally I don't lose that many compared to plastics which I also have a lot I have acumalated too. I numbered my plastic boxes and the spreadsheet has the box number listed. This has save me a lot of time when looking for a particular bait.

Ya - I've got plastics separated by type in Plano 3607-10 boxes, in original bags. My Z-Man stuff is in a box by itself.

That’s cool. Nothing wrong with that. Everyone has their on thing going on with how they arrange themselves.

My cut tail worms 4,5 and 6” worms are all together. I use GY for the most part but do use Kanami (?) Yammy spin-off ?, BPS and Cabela’s cut tails. All stored in one container. Easy find. Not like I have 30 pounds of cut tail worms I’m toting around.

I have half decent storage on my Tracker. That helps a lot. Other than rods I don’t have a lot laying around on my deck when I’m out. This may sound corny or stupid but what I have out while I’m out is this plastic type vegetable or fruit type storage bin/basket that your old lady may use in the kitchen for stuff. I Have holes drilled in rim edge to hang crankbaits, spinnerbaits, I throw worm bags in it, cut off terminal tackle in it. While I’m out I put stuff in there and when I get home I put everything back in it’s place. It is what seems to work for me. Nothing get lost or blown around. Things don’t get put back wet.

I’m by myself most of the time out. Do get my grandsons out. Can’t get many people interested in going. Was told I that the **** too serious. Don’t know of any other way of taking it other than how I do. Grandsons know what the bass are about. They can fish what they want of my stuff. It’s easier. They do have their own things but when they are hanging with me I try to do it more like a guide service. I’m more about them catching than me. Same if I was taking someone for the first time. Just use my stuff.

Sorry for getting off track.

I'm still laying out the plans for storage compartments on the F-9. Trying to make it

A: Big enough for expansion of lures/plastics inventory

and

B: Easily accessible.

That’s great that you keep a log like that. You have my respect for keeping some of your fishing a family thing also. Good fishing.

I find myself off loading some stuff now days. Not a lot. Sort of lighten up some. May sound crazy but there are things I fish river smallies with that I don’t use on the lake. I don’t think I’ve ever thrown a Bandit at the lake for Mr. Greenjeans. I’m not leaving home and going to the river without them. Probably because I’m getting older and focus is changing. Maybe not focus but my approach.

I only kept track of game fish for one while season between the four of us (walleye, northern pike, muskie, largemouth bass, and smallmouth bass).  This was probably 15 years ago already.  It was interesting to look at after the season was over and at certain points during the season.  I don't remember the numbers exactly but I do remember that only 1 muskie was recorded that season between the four of us.

I understand.  Its easy to see how we can accumulate lures when we have a dedicated thread to "tackle sales" and "bait monkey."  Some people have tendencies in the fishing realm in terms of what lures or tactics they prefer to use too, so naturally they are going to have more of one than the other.

Why????  How does this help you??

For me, on the lures/plastics especially, I can look at the spreadsheet when I'm tagging items to buy and be assured that I'm not buying something I already have.

Otherwise with my memory, I'd have to pull all my boxes out and check every single lure/plastic I own manually.

I guess I could see that with plastics.  I don't have nearly enough hard baits to worry about keeping inventory.

I use a phone app called Inkpad in which you can make a list and can check off each item.  So, when I 'need' a replacement bait or bag of baits, I just un-check those on my list and reference that when I'm shopping.

I don't need a spread sheet.  I can remember every lure I have ever bought, what I caught on it, if I still have it, where I lost it, and if I need to buy more.  My wife brings my fishing lure memory up, when ever I forget to stop at the store, or have to ask her where my keys, glasses, etc. are.

Out of the 400 or so hard hard baits that i own, only 100 or so get used, and make it in the boat. About 100 are "retired" and on display, and the others are in limbo, and probabally never see the water again. I like them all. 50 years of buying and this is what you get. Of course i don't need more, but i will buy a couple every year. If i were to be limited to 1- 3700 box for hard baits for the rest of my days, i could do it, but i wouldn't want to...

I can see it now. Laminate the sheets and stick them in the front for your pants like an offensive coordinator or make a wrist band with a flip up cover.

I do this to KEEP me from 'going postal' in the winter. ;)

The postal service is offering nice jobs near me. I kind of want one but I think I’d rather be broke than to go insane

back to the original topic, I have forgotten where I put most of all my lures and they are totally unorganized. I buy junk all the time, when all I fish is an 1/8 oz jig head

I keep a spreadsheet with reel information on it, but nothing for baits.

I've got a 'tab' for that too...and one for rods.

And my panfish lures are on a separate tab from the bass lures.

You know buddy, if you die, the Michigan forest would be wiped out from building your casket.

I have fished a bandit 100 in reed beds and it was just as awesome as on the river and writing that I can’t figure out why I don’t use it more often. I bought a buddy a bandit 200 for watching our cats and it is one his best baits.

For me to remember what the heck I have. I am ashamed to say how many I have lol. Plastics I have like 15 4700 double decker boxes and having a way to quickly find the bait I want helps a lot. My problem is sales, I overbuy sometimes on unproven baits for me. Auctions to, as I got a great deal on like 50 vintage raps.

You're welcome....Anyway, if we buried you with all those plano boxes with plastice lures, it would take at least 200 years for it to decompose. ?...keep lifting, keep lifting.
