I sometimes wonder how many BR members have done this? When your cleaning and servicing one of your reels, you drop a very small part, then, have to crawl around on the floor trying to find it. I have done this. So far, I've been lucky and have been able to find the part.           Has this ever happened to you,?

Yes, several times. I made a "custom" working tray out of a pizza box, but some springs have a mind of their own.

It happens so often, that I work on a fluffy white towel to help prevent them from reaching the floor.  And I always sweep the floor ahead of time.  More than once, I've completely lost a part and had to either fabricate or purchase a new one.

Ha, definitely.  Springs fly off, and then you gotta crawl around feeling for em.  Never permanently lost anything though!

springs and (E-) C-clips - work in a shoebox.

Yes. I've made the crawl a time or 3. A good headlamp helps.

Happened last week. Drag click pin on an SLX I was cleaning fell off the spring and onto the carpet. That took ~5 minutes crawling around with a headlamp to find.

I stick the reel/part in a clear gallon-size ziplock when removing e-clips or anything that might take flight...Stick your hands in and remove whatever it is inside the bag.  When it does go flying, it's still inside the bag.

Happens to me on occasion but I have been using a large Amazon box to work in with a magnified desk lamp.  I also use silicone parts trays that I got from Lowes.  These have been very helpful.

Just a few times. One time I lost one of the springs that sit on the posts of the yoke (I think that is the part name). Couldn't find it, ordered 5 ( for future compression spring launches), finally found the one I lost a couple of days before the replacements arrived.

I took a spinning reel down too far (first time). That spring that is attached to the free spool switch. Yeah, that went flying. I found it a couple of days later.

This year, have gone through 4 reels so far, not lost parts...yet.

Yes it has, Bought a mesh that fits in my floor vents from Home Depot. I also cover the floor vent when I work on my reels.  Also bought a soldering mat from Amazon.

Never fails. Even if I have a tray on my workspace. I feel like you're in good company on this one.

Been there done that! I started using one of the wife’s cupcake baking sheets. All parts from each sub-assembly gets placed in each of the “cups”. I then lined each with felt so if something does fall, it won’t bounce around or in and out

I probably should have bought a tray a long time ago. At least once a year I find myself on the floor with one of these sweeping the floor. Haven't dropped a part this hasn't been able to pick up ... so far ...

I’ve been working in heavy industrial equipment repair my whole life. Many years ago I started taking hydraulic valves, motors and pumps I’m repairing apart on/in a large steel cookie sheet. Solves the rolling away problem. Maybe the wife has something laying around. Cover the surface with a couple of shop rags. That will keep everything in place.

Now that's using your head for something other than a hatrack!!! Great idea. Last time I serviced one of my Super Duty's the pivot pin for the flippin switch got away from me. Took quite awhile to find that little bugger.

I can't say for certain that I have ever made it through a reel without making at least one trip to the floor.
