Punkinseedfyretailz Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 ok so we bought this 14' jon boat some time ago. this was rough when we acquired it, so needless to say theres been alot done to it. we sandblasted the entire boat inside and out, exposed all leaks and fixed them except for one. my plug leaks, anyone have an idea of a good way to fix this????? ive still got more work to do to it but this is by far the most pressing issue Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 3, 2010 Super User Posted April 3, 2010 What kind of plug is it? Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted April 3, 2010 Super User Posted April 3, 2010 Does the plug itself leak or the housing around it? Quote
Punkinseedfyretailz Posted April 3, 2010 Author Posted April 3, 2010 the housing around it leaks. it's not as uniform as it should be... thinking about putting some jb weld in there drill it out and file it down..... think that would be a good idea? Quote
VABassin'14 Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I have a jon boat that has the plug welded shut. I doesn't bother me too much. If I get water inside it, I will just flip it upside down and drain the water out. Quote
Punkinseedfyretailz Posted April 3, 2010 Author Posted April 3, 2010 you know that might not be a bad idea maybe i'll do that. but my buddies and i were thinking about selling it when we're done, i think that may hurt the value though... if we decide to keep it then i'll just close it off Quote

Keep it and stop BUGGING me for mine!! Anyways can't see where sealing would be a problem on a jon boat for their light to man handle. You could just install a small bilge pump for incase reasons of water. Quote
spropro Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 there is a great site, I believe "tinboats.com" or "tinboats.org". Site is totally dedicated to oufitting jon boats. If it's been done to a boat its discussed on this site. Quote
steveb1 Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Usually Jonboats have the right angle lever style plug that goes on the inside of the boat. Have you tried using the "screw" style plug that goes on the outside of the boat? The different section of the tube may be better for achieving a good seal. Quote

Punkinseedfyretailz Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 tahnks guys appereciate the feedback, yeah we've tried different plugs. you see, this boat was an absolute wreck when we first got it... it's come a long way since then. the housing for the plug is so beat up the i've actually had to put a ring of jb weld in it just for a plug to fit, the problem is i cant get a solid uniform ring for a plug to seal it. its still more egg shaped than anything. but im gonna post the other other forum and see what they think... push come to shove ill seal the entire thing like the one guy suggested. but anyways thanks again fellas Quote
