lunkerboss923 Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 Trading in some reels and I'm looking to fill some holes. I've got a 743C Kaden that I've been using for finesse stuff and I've really liked the way it fishes weighted wacky rigs and shaky heads. Would a Curado 70MGL be recommend? Quote
softwateronly Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 I got my curado 71 about a week before everything froze solid. What little time I had with it was very impressive, though it was dragging 1/2oz jigs. It is currently my favored curado over the k, dc, and 301. The MGL spool has treated me well in the bantam and metanium with light weight baits. Although, I am curious and intending to one day grab a Daiwa Sv spool. It does sound like it would be the best light bait caster from an engineering perspective in my opinion. scott Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted January 26, 2022 Super User Posted January 26, 2022 I have 2 Curado 70 MGL's and love them. They cast great, and they're extremely palmable. If you have giant hands you may not like that as much. 1 Quote
DomQ Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 Best curado reel ever made in my opinion. I've used the heck out of my 7 speed, even more then my metanium mgl B. Quote
TBAG Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 Can't go wrong, I have one paired with an Adrena and use it for texas rigs, jigs. Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted January 26, 2022 Super User Posted January 26, 2022 Highly recommended for your intended purpose. Quote
LCG Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 I have the SLX MGL 70 and the Curado 70 MGL. Both are excellent reels and excel with light lures. Just got the Curado, but I have been pitching around the house and it does just as good as the SLX but in a smaller slightly more refined package. Highly recommend. Quote
Msl819 Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 I LOVE mine as well. My only complaint is it is an XG. Wish it was a HG. Not the reels fault, obviously. Other than that it is hard to justify the cost jump to the Bantams/Metaniums/ETC. I am curious if the 150 MGL is as good but I don’t find the need for more line capacity. Quote

I've got the 150 MGL and it's sweet! I compared the 150 to the 70 and believe it or not, it's lighter. I might just get another one. 1 Quote
BayouSlide Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 I now have two Curado 70 MGLs spooled with 10# Sunline Shooter FC on two Dobyns Champion medium 702s: perfectly fit the gap between the lure weights for my BFS setups and standard baitcasters. All in all, they reduce the need for spinning gear. Love 'em. ? Quote
MontclairDave Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 I’ve got the 70 and it is one sweet reel. Great for pitching in close—that mgl reel manages line so well; comes off fast with no backlashes. And it handles a pretty good range of lure weights. I do find I am casting down to the backing with heavier lures on longer casts but that’s not necessarily a bad thing—just shows you can really bomb-cast with this reel. I do think you need to look at the 150 though. Bigger line capacity, lighter, cheaper, and I think a bigger drag? Lots of YouTube vids comparing them. My next reel definitely will be the 150 mgl. Junk Fisherman Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 Love mine. Used it last year for pitching dropshots. Then I started using it for 4" finesse swimbaits. Loved it with both presentations. And I am comparing it to a bunch of Tatulas and Zillions. You won't be disappointed. Quote

The 70 has 11lbs of drag the 150 has 13lbs. Shimano got it right on this reel. It's probably the most versatile reel in the Shimano line. Quote

Haven’t fished it yet but my first non-Shimano reel, so am interested to see how I like it. Feels pretty good in hand out of the box. Quote

Haven't had my S3 out yet and won't for a few more months. Quote

I’ve thrown everything from a 1/10th ned rig to a 1/2oz chatterbait (plus trailer) with no issues at all. Quote

lunkerboss923 Posted January 30, 2022 Author Posted January 30, 2022 It's about the same size. The perks of the 70 is going to be the capability of palming the reel and having a smaller spool for flipping and pitching, not to mention jerkbait and popper fishing. The 150 is going to give you more power in drag at 13 pounds. So this reel is going to be Shimano's most versatile reel. i could see someone get a 6 gear ratio for cranking and moving baits, a 7 for Texas Rigs, traps squarebills, swim jigs , and an 8 for pitching and flipping. The possibilities are endless with the 150. The 70 is more specialized and a great option, just has it's limits with the spool size. Quote
