Creek Chub 1 Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 I have never used the stupid tube method but started experimenting with rigging in the past couple of weeks. one issue I’m having is trying to stupid tube rig a 2 1/2 inch tube. The hooks I’ve tried are too long. any body got a link to a jig that’ll work for 2 1/2 tubes? many thanks Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 26, 2022 Global Moderator Posted January 26, 2022 The ones I’ve seen also work for 3 inch or bigger tubes. Gitzit seems to get bit better in the longer tubes for me. I haven’t figured out how to stupid rig a 2.75” inch yet, I’ve just been using open hook as always with the small tubes 1 Quote

Super User Darth-Baiter Posted January 26, 2022 Super User Posted January 26, 2022 I tried to think outside the box. I straightened a hook and used it like a needle to thread my line in the tube. Then I buried a worm sinker in the body, and tied a smaller hook. I caught one! I now know a way to rig up a punch bait with a bigger tube! 1 Quote

I tied a steel worm weight to the eye to make this giant tube stupid....Gonna drag it around in TX and see if they like it. scott 2 1 Quote

Better than mine. With a heavy punch weight, I think it would thread thru mats better than any creature. Quote

My guess is that it would be inferior to a pegged tungsten weight, the tube has a near 1" diameter and is super thin walled/light. I would think a weight making the hole and pulling the tube down would be more effective. Worth a try though. This is a mizmo ish 7" tube and an owner offset worm hook in 11/0. I sliced 1/2" of the tube on the shank side to give it more room to collapse on a hookset. The worm weight is tied off inside, pulled up tight to the bend and secured to the shank, it's offset a touch and slightly rattles. I'm hoping I get some spiral/glide on the way down. scott Quote

Thank you @softwateronly. Appreciate you watching and recommending my videos. I try. Yup, I have the same "complaint" about using these jigs with shorter tubes. There just aren't any options out there...yet. As soon as somebody can make them with a tungsten head on a 2/0 hook....that's money. In fact, I even mention it in my video. 2 hours ago, softwateronly said: I tied a steel worm weight to the eye to make this giant tube stupid....Gonna drag it around in TX and see if they like it. scott Try this technique: They don't make that hook anymore, but you can see how you can do this with, say, a Trokar hook. 3 Quote
GRiver Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 I just received my order from Tackle Warehouse, ordered stupid tubes(3.7”) and gig heads. I got 4.0 hook gig head, they have a 3.0 that I wished I would have got in stead. The 4.0 work but 3.7” is about as small as I could go on tube size. I really like the tube colors they have. The Secret Lure website has kinda of a starter kit for stupid tube rigs. Bass pro has a tube jig called the goofy-E and the eye is turned the opposite way but still has a big hook. I have never fished a tube before, I’m ready to try it. Quote
padon Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 i rig mine stupid sometimes. it works but man i wish the hook had a wider gap . i havent lost an unusual amount of fish but it sure doesnt leave much gap there. Quote
Creek Chub 1 Posted January 26, 2022 Author Posted January 26, 2022 Has anyone tried the owner phantom tube rig with 1/0 for 2.5” tubes? Quote
waymont Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 The Bite Me brand stupid tube heads are killer in 4/0 for 4" tubes. Quote
OHBuckets Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 I like Venom's goofball jigs if I'm going weedless with tubes:) Quote
Super User scaleface Posted June 7, 2024 Super User Posted June 7, 2024 I havent done a stupid rig A couple of questions . What tube size seems to work best? 3.5 inch? 4? How does this thing go over sticks? With the eye pointing up, it seems like the blunt nose of the tube would interfere with it being pulled over. Is there a certain jig head with eye angle that will go through thick brush best ? Quote
