Went to order some stuff yesterday and after getting some hooks in my cart every time I tried to buy another product the site crashed and reloaded.  I had to order on the phone, which was a PIA and took twice as long.  Has anyone had the same experience or is does my internet have so little band width that it's the culprit?

They’ve implemented a new tracking feature whereby once your total purchases exceed a certain threshold in a short amount of time, they insert an “intervention,” i.e., a crash, to protect you and your finances from greater loss. If you just wait a couple weeks for some of your older purchases to drop off, the site will work fine again. It’s just to protect you ?

Just kidding, obviously. I online ordered a week or two back with no issue. Could be your computer, website traffic when you were trying, or a glitch. Probably short-lived whatever caused it.

I was so frustrated with BPS and Cabel sites a while back until I figured it out. I couldn't search, couldn't add items...nothing worked as it should.

Are you using Firefox?  I was; still am for every other site and they all work fine except theirs.

I discovered their sites are configured to work best with Chrome.

Try Chrome and report back.

There was once a day where we had to get off our rear ends to go to the store and purchase things...

I have no problems navigating BPS/Cabelas site with Firefox.

There was also a day when the store was closer than a 2 hours drive. These big box stores have closed many smaller outdoor stores and force us to order from them or drive 2 hours one way.

I guess I'm lucky. Within 30 minutes drive, even in traffic, I have

Scheels

Omnia

DSG

Fleet Farm

and a 'mom&pop' store - Wayzata Bait and Tackle

45 minutes away (in light traffic) is a Cabelas.

I just took 5 reels into Wayzata Bait & Tackle for some refurbishing/maintenance.

Lately, Omnia has received a lot of my tackle purchasing business.

Touché

I have a Cabelas 10 minutes away and 2 Bass Pro's both 45 minutes north of me and south of me.

As far as your statement about the big box stores as the reason the small guys are closing shop, I disagree. The way people purchase things has changed and I would bet the small guys were either unwilling or unable to adapt. There's a small bait and tackle shop about 15 minutes from me. Been around many years. He jumped in head first selling online and has become a success.

Also, from a guy that likes to physically go to a store and shop, the brick and mortar concept has changed. We used to have sporting goods stores that sold fishing stuff, golf stuff, football, baseball, soccer, skiing stuff etc. Sporting goods stores have become specialty stores. Aside from Dick's, at least in the Midwest, there are no more big box sporting goods stores around here.

If you were willing to travel down to Springfield - there's a Scheels there.

In the smaller stores, live bait has always been one of the primary reasons people went in there. Buying tackle or gear was secondary at these places. Nowadays, unless I’m buying live bait (which is rare) or having reel work done, I don’t even bother to stop at a small local shop because the selection is terrible and the prices are sky high.

I’ll give you an example. 2 weeks ago when I dropped off some reels, the line was out the door at Wayzata Bait & Tackle. All 10 people in line were buying minnows to go ice fishing. I was literally the only customer there not buying live bait.

If I want live bait, I just hit the BP on Shoreline and Interlachen - they got 3 types of minnows in tanks...not the bagged one's like the other convenience stores around here. And yes, the prices on tackle are as high as you'd expect.

The BPS website used to be great.  Now it's darn near unusable.  How does that happen?  How could a huge company like this have such a garbage website in 2022?

Web developers are constantly adding features and updates to their websites.  Some are obvious, some are hidden from the user.  Many new features require the latest browser version to work as designed.  Many users are running outdated browsers.  My bet is someone on this forum right now is still using Microsoft Explorer or AOL Email.    I have both Firefox and Chrome on my PC and I update them regularly.   I use Fire Fox the majority of the time.  My bank's website requires Chrome.

One of the problems with there site is that you have to disable ad blockers to use there site. They use tracking software , that's why when you search on there site you get emails saying we noticed this caught your eye.

The problem is more likely to happen with Firefox. The first thing to do is disable your **** and see if that fixes the issue. But the likely cause is your privacy settings, what type of tracking you allow, or what type of scripts you allow to run (i.e. tracking).

My guess is that BPS is aware of the issue, but it is more important for them to be able to track users through the website than implement a work around.

Bass Pro has one of the worst websites around for tackle shopping.  Luckily there are way better options available.

FYI.   I recently wished to replenish my supply of Zoom Speed worms in my favorite color.  I went to my local tackle shop and the spot where these worms hung on the wall was bare.  The store owner said they were on back order.  I went home and checked the Tackle Warehouse website.  They were back ordered there also.  I checked a couple of other websites with no luck.  Then I remembered Bass Pro Shop.  I quit buying from them as the store in Orlando never had what I wanted.  My online order was processed and three days later my worms arrived.  ?

I agree, never had an issue with ordering from BPS website and their basic shipping is great. Just a matter of days compared to TW basic shipping, two to three weeks last time I ordered from them. While some BPS stores do run out of product, online has never been out of stock on what I wanted.

Academy and Scheels are great too. Thanks to @MN Fisher for turning me on to Scheels!
