CrashVector Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 https://www.abugarcia.com/collections/spinning-combos/products/max-x-spinning-combo-1523056 Pick your rod length, reel size, and rod power..all the same price. They're DECENT, but nothing special. The Max-X line is a budget line, and it shows. However....for $90, I can highly recommend this: https://www.abugarcia.com/collections/spinning-combos/products/max-pro-spinning-combo-1523046 $15 more and you get a true high quality combo. The max pro spinning reels are definitely worth the $. I have a 20 size I use for ned rigs. It's a great reel at a very fair price. Quote

But i will recommend a 7' plus medium with a moderate tip. I love cheap spinning for finesse haha. Several times a week usually! 2 Quote
cyclops2 Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 So a $ 75 combo of rod, reel & line will not catch many nice fish ? Wish someone would have told me that decades ago. Now I know why I am catching less fish each year. 2 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 23, 2022 Super User Posted January 23, 2022 I read both the title and post. The OP saying he wants a 7’ rod, all his current rods are 6’6”. All meaning more then 1. Upgrade the rod now and put the best reel on it for a combo and retire the oldest 6’6” rod. Tom 1 Quote

It sounds like you are looking to replace a rod, not a combo. Quote
Luke Barnes Posted January 23, 2022 Author Posted January 23, 2022 I thought about piecing one together. BPS has the Formula reel and then a Lightning rod would be good enough for me. I have 6 spinning rods and only 1 is a 7' let alone a M. So as long as the rod meets the criteria I would be fine. This will completely replace a very cheap and crappy Shakespeare Crusader reel and H2O Xpress Angler rod. 1 Quote

All of my spinning rods are 6'6 and I really like the 7' better. So i know what I think is good and what I like but I value everyones opinion. So best spinning setup for $75 or less. I know if I bumped it to $100 it would be better. Then might as well go to $120 heck just make it $150. So seriously $75 limit so I can buy some line for it and be under the $100 gift card limit. I want to use it for everything. I have all technique specific rods that don't get other lures tied on so this would be a catch all rod and reel. Edit: I looked at the Kast King Centurion (i think that's what it's called) and the specs are nice but ive never used KK before so wary of them. Also I go higher end on casting stuff, spinning not so much. My favorite casting setup I have is a BPS Crappie Maxx I use for ned rigs!! Not a big fan of bps rods, reels are fine but nothing impressive for the price, I'd personally take a kiddie rod over a bps rod that's how dissapointed I am in them... Quote
cyclops2 Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 I feel confident in saying that almost every reel today is outstanding in the price range you want. IF built as designed. I buy some reels and give them away to kids where I stay each summer. This summer is some of my personal rods & reels being given away with a Zip Lok freezer bag of terminal & lures to help them. None of anything has ever changed from like new operation. Some of us need to get a good deal. Others need to buy the highest priced. & complain about the operation not being perfect or needing to be sent in for repairs. Quote
